3 Cerritos Community College District / Measure CC and/or G Facilities Projects / 3 PROJECT EXAMPLES: STUDENT SERVICES AND ADMINISTRATION MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE, STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER 22,800 SF; $10 M; Completion: 2015 (EST); Walnut, CA Starting construction in early 2014, the Student Success Center on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA is a much-needed new building that will be placed immediately adjacent to Mt. SAC s existing Student Services Building, and it will face the campus important future central landscaped quad. Programs that will be provided within the new threestory, 22,800-GSF building include Disabled Student Programs and Services, a high-tech study center and open computer lab, a Veterans Counseling and Resource Center, the Bridge and Aspire programs, International Students, and a Health Services Clinic Annex. Built into an existing hillside, the project will serve as both a gateway to the future quad and also provide a new path for the disabled to traverse the vertical changes in elevation that permeate the Mt. SAC campus. The building is designed to reflect the style and context of both the existing brick buildings and the newer buildings on campus. RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE, STUDENT SERVICES & ADMIN BUILDING 33,000 SF; $20 M; Completion: 2015 (EST); Riverside, CA HMC is partnering with Riverside City College to program and design the new Student Services and Administration Building. The new facility will consolidate all of the student services programs, currently housed in multiple locations on campus, into one centralized building located at the entry to the campus. Like the new Falcon Center on the Cerritos College campus, this new facility will serve as the gateway to the campus and provide first time visitors and students immediate access to the important student support services needed to succeed. The programming for this project included the reenvisioning of how services are delivered and the exploration of trends in student services, including varied levels of integration. The programming workshops involved representatives from all departments and included lively brainstorming discussions. Programs housed within the building include DSPS, Financial Aid, Admissions/Records, Veterans Center, Bursar s Office, Assessment Center, Welcome Center, Outreach Program, Counseling, EOPS, Trio, CalWORKS, and the Administration Offices suite.
4 Cerritos Community College District / Measure CC and/or G Facilities Projects / 4 PROJECT EXAMPLES: ALLIED HEALTH COLLEGE OF THE DESERT, NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES COMPLEX 28,600 SF; $10.4 M; Completion: 2009; Palm Desert, CA This new facility and renovation project added much needed space for the college s nursing and allied health programs. Specialized instructional spaces include a modern nursing skills lab, a simulation lab with a technician s control room and human patient simulator mannequins, a flexible use EMT lab, a computer lab, and a learning resource center. The building s exterior was designed to complement the strong existing design context on the campus. The new building portion received a LEED Silver certification and the renovation achieved LEED Gold. UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, RIVERSIDE, SCHOOL OF MEDICINE 42,000 SF; $12.9 M; Completion: 2012; Riverside, CA This project is similar to the needed renovation of the Health Science Building on the Cerritos College campus. Built in the early 1970s as a Statistical Computation and Mathematics Building, HMC s design experts transformed this vintage shell into the home of the School of Medicine at University of California, Riverside (UCR). The 42,000 SF extensive renovation included seismic upgrades to correct structural deficiencies, complete replacement of all building systems, and extensive reconfiguration of interior spaces all without disrupting the operation of the main campus computer hub, housed on the first floor. In support of the accreditation needs for the School of Medicine, HMC has worked diligently with the Dean of Medicine and his team to provide the full range of instructional and support spaces required from flexible classrooms and lecture halls, to a new gross anatomy lab, simulation lab, and mock exam rooms, to administrative spaces and places for students to meet and collaborate.
5 HMC Architects Cerritos Community College District / Measure CC and/or G Facilities Projects / 5 PROJECT EXAMPLES: HEALTH AND WELLNESS SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY COLLEGE, NCAA GYMNASIUM COMPLEX 85,500 SF; $48.5 M; Completion: 2015 (EST ); San Bernardino, CA The new gymnasium complex for the San Bernardino Communit y College District at San Bernardino Valley College is a much needed addition that will include two NCA A competition gymnasium spaces, athletics and PE locker rooms, exercise, fitness and dance facilities, of fice space and specialized instruction spaces. The project is an approximately 85,0 0 0 SF steel braced frame structure with three floors. This project was preceded by a PE /Athletics Precinct Planning and Programming exercise. The ultimate project, includes a brand new stadium with 2,50 0 seats with concessions, ticketing, toilet rooms, team rooms, meeting rooms and athletics storage. Like the Cerritos College campus, the new ex terior building design needed to complement the existing design aesthetic and campus contex t of Valley College. By its scale and massing, the project defines the east edge of the master planned glade and opens up to the updated athletics quad and stadium to the nor th and east. The facilit y will ser ve the rapidly growing communit y at San Bernardino Valley College. MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE, ATHLETIC FACILITY EXPANSION 75,000 SF; $39 M; Completion: 2016 (EST ); Walnut, CA Mt. SAC s Athletics Complex East project includes a completely new 11, seat stadium, with a future gymnasium, a future aquatics center, a new track and football competition field, a practice track, practice fields, and tennis cour ts. The field house building beneath the home grandstands will include spaces similar to the new Cerritos College Health & Wellness project such as locker rooms, fitness center, weight room, training room, laundr y room, equipment rooms, and a variet y of team rooms. Also included in the first phase of the project are coaches and facult y of fices, meeting rooms, and three large active learning classroom labs. A separate but connected Heritage Hall will spotlight past athletic accomplishments and can be also used for hosting banquet events.
