Students planning to attend another school should check with that institution concerning transferability, since transferability is up to the discretion of each institution. Course materials can be found on the WWCC itunes U site: (This can also be accessed from a link in Campus Cruiser). Saladin. Anatomy and Physiology (7 th ed.). I strongly recommend the Connect Plus ebook system access code available at the college bookstore. If you d rather have the traditional text, you may order it through the bookstore. If you already have a different text, you may use it, but you MUST HAVE ACCESS TO CONNECT. Anatomy and Physiology Revealed (available online free of charge through Hay Library; also available through Connect) Recommended book: Borror. Dictionary of Word Roots and Combining Forms. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides an understanding of the structure and function of the human body. Covered topics include homeostasis, cells and tissues, blood, and the endocrine, lymphatic, immune, skeletal, muscular, digestive, and reproductive systems. Course Objectives & College-Wide Goals for Student Success: Listed below are this course s primary goals and the measure of successful completion of these goals. Some of the course goals also reinforce WWCC s Goals for Student Success: WWCC GOALS FOR STUDENT SUCCESS: Five major goals - WWCC has identified the following as goals for student success - Communicate Competently Information See Issues from Multiple Perspectives Solve Problems Develop Life Skills
2 Course Primary Learning Goals and integration of the Goals for Student Success: What students will learn in this class (Course Goals): Which WWCC Goals will be What skills will be measured (Course How the skills will be measured (Assessment): Demonstrate ability to communicate competently using the language of anatomy and physiology. Identify and properly use the fundamental tools of the science laboratory Know and understand the basic biological concepts related to anatomy and physiology addressed: Communicate Competently Solve Problems Information Develop Life Skills Solve problems Competencies): Preparation of lab reports in proper format apply statistical analyses interpret statistical analyses form testable hypotheses and predictions perform literature review identify and synthesize from multiple peer-reviewed sources use LabTutor and other hardware/soft ware packages to analyze and present data. Identify and implement the steps in the scientific method 2 Each student will prepare lab reports (including peer reviewed sources) and/or correctly answer quiz questions based on lab assignments. Each student will be participate in and be and be scored for competency in:! Laboratory skills! Attendance Each student will participate in and be scored based on competency in :! Laboratory skills
3 See issues from multiple perspectives Apply physiological principles to case studies, lab hypotheses, and biomedical problems.! Laboratory problems! Homework problems and flow diagram creation! Examinations on covered topics in anatomy and physiology. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Lecture, laboratory, discussion, group activities, audio visual materials. METHODS OF EVALUATION: Attendance Policy Attendance is expected at all labs and lectures, and students are responsible for all announcements and material presented. Attendance will be taken in lab, and 50 points will be deducted from the final course grade for each unexcused missed lab. Grading Policy Final grades will be determined as follows: 5 traditional exams: homeostasis, cells and tissues endocrine system blood and lymph; immune system bone and muscle systems digestive, reproductive systems and development total of all quizzes and assignments count as 1 exam Best exam pts Worst exam...82 pts Other 4 exams pts each, 668 pts total Total pts Grading Scale points = A 800 points = B 700 points = C 600 points = D Below 600 points = F Lab grades are S if 700 points or above, U otherwise. Rounding Policy Points will be calculated to 2 decimal places, and will not be rounded. 3
