2 Challenges The UK Public Sector is facing hugely complex, inter-departmental challenges We need to deliver a 21 st century infrastructure to solve these challenges and seize opportunities to work more efficiently, flexibly, and responsively Hugely challenging environment in UK 2

3 Where were [are] we? Austerity no change on the horizon Stuck in large contracts 80% of Central Gov reducing ICT controlled by 6 companies waste and project failure, and stimulating economic High system and running costs growth Difficult to iterate / reuse delivering strengthened better public governance services for less cost Lack of real competition Huge bill 16 billion p.a. using ICT to enable and deliver change creating a common ICT infrastructure 3 There are a number of reasons why Cloud is appealing and why G Cloud in particular came about Cuts in spending & budgets Outsourced all of our experience, so totally reliant on large companies The value being achieved through large contracts Missing out on the skills and offerings from a huge section of the IT landscape Multiple organisations undertaking the same activities wasted resource Not focusing on the core business Competition lacking and not being treated as a single customer

4 G-Cloud vision Public Cloud First Multi-tenanted Commodity solutions Pay-as-you-go and friction free easy in and easy out of contracts Rapid elasticity- up/down On-demand self-service Easily Accessible G-Cloud has shown itself to be a model for efficient public sector IT procurement, establishing a dynamic marketplace for cloud based IT service Francis Maude Minister for Cabinet Office 4 We need to find a better way G Cloud started by visionaries Chris Chant, Tim Hanley, Denise McDonagh We are doing out best to make this a success Industry is doing their bit too really fantastic that companies are being so active This is not just about transitioning IT; it s about transitioning the way we think and the way we run organisation to meet the challenges or increased mobility, reduced budgets, etc This is a huge behavioural and cultural change 4

How do we encourage the shift away from custom to commodity? 6 G-Cloud Programme: Our aim is to encourage the adoption of cloudbased services across the Public Sector Sales SME Vol SME Sales Phase 1 complete: 1 st anniversary; open and competitive marketplace 800+ suppliers and 7,000 + services provide access to a much wider choice 80%+ SMEs We ve made it a lot easier for buyers We ve made it a lot easier for suppliers; we re levelling the playing field for SMEs 18.2m to end of Mar 80% vol of orders 70% of spend We re getting the message out; we re changing the market for public sector IT Public Cloud First announced What have we done?
