1 Vermont State Archives Campaign Material, Doc Introduction This collection contains Vermont political campaign material collected by the Vermont State Archives during the period The Vermont State Archives gave the collection to the Vermont Historical Society library in October 2002 to free up space in the Archive s crowded vault (ms. acc. no ). Scope and Content The collection includes materials from statewide, countywide, and legislative district campaigns in Vermont during the period The collection contains materials from all levels of elective office from U.S. Senator to state representative to sheriff and assistant judge. The collection also contains material from three U.S. Presidential campaigns: 1988, 1992, and The collection does not contain material related to local elections such as school board, city council, or district attorney. The original order of the collection as established by the staff at the Vermont State Archives has been maintained. The collection is arranged by year and then by office. Material from all candidates for a given office is kept together in one folder. There is no name index to the collection, but there is a list of candidates for the first three years: 1986, 1988 and The collection includes many brochures, handbills, posters, bumper stickers, and occasional position papers. The collection also includes campaign buttons, t-shirts, and other three dimensional objects. Three videotapes have been removed to the library s videotape collection (Video C-76, C-77, and C-78). Two clips for snack food bags and one baseball cap have been removed to the museum collections. One broadside is filed in the Society s broadside collection (B side D Political Parties, 1994). Other oversized broadsides have been removed to separate folders within the Society s broadside collection under the heading Political Elections, 1980s and 1990s. There are 46 broadsides in size D, 11 in size C, and 5 in size B. Related Collections There is related and perhaps even duplicate material in the VHS library s own broadside and bumper sticker collections. The VHS museum also has its own collections of campaign material such as t-shirts and buttons. I Doc 482: 1 List of candidates-general election 2 List of winners-general election 3 Assistant Judges
