Two "Mentoring for Families & Kids events were held in March and April at the Haskell building with around a dozen kids and their families attending. Ja Post membe Jax member Fernando Fe nando Castaneda led both events, assisted by Carlos Cepero, Autumn Ziegler and Melissa Reynolds. During the March event, after an "introduction to bridges" presentation by Fernando, the young attendants designed and built balsa wood bridges with the help of the SAME representatives. representatives During the April event, the bridges were loaded and tested, and a brief explanation of the possible failure mechanisms was given. Later on, a Jeopardy-type game was held, in which the participants needed to identify the type of engineering (e.g. civil, mechanical, electrical or environmental) involved with a specific project shown by the projector. SAME provided pizza and soda during both events. The children got a good basic feel for engineering and so it was a successful event for both the kids and their parents. SAME will be sponsoring two more events toward the end of the yyear.

3 2011 Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo MAY 24-27,2011 Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center Grapevine, Texas Make plans to attend the 2011 Joint Engineer Training Conference and Expo (JETC) from May 24-27, 2011 in Grapevine, Texas.
