Presentation Overview Concurrent Enrollment [see handout] Admission Standards Cooperative Alliance Admission Standards Tuition Waiver Placing Courses on High School Transcript Retention Standards Use of Residual ACT State Department of Education 2012 ACE Graduation Requirements State and Federal Financial Aid Implications

Concurrent Enrollment SENIOR Admission Standards

Concurrent Enrollment JUNIOR Admission Standards

Concurrent Enrollment Cooperative Alliance Admission Standards for JUNIORS and SENIORS Note: These Concurrent Enrollment admission standards apply to students enrolled in a Cooperative Alliance Project-identified Associate of Applied Science degree program/s and not students enrolled in unrelated technology programs.

Concurrent Enrollment Who is eligible for the tuition waiver? Tuition Waivers [see handout] Any Oklahoma high school student who has completed the junior year but has not graduated from high school and meets the State Regents admission standards for concurrent enrollment for seniors is eligible. Does the waiver include the summer semester? Students are eligible for a waiver of tuition for up to six semester hours per semester, including the summer term after the junior year and before the senior year, plus the fall and spring semesters during the senior year. The summer following the senior year is not included. Once a student graduates from high school, he/she is considered a regular student and not eligible for the waiver. Are nonresidents eligible for the tuition waiver? The waiver is intended for Oklahoma high school students; therefore, students residing or attending school in other states would not be eligible. Are undocumented immigrant students eligible for the waiver? Yes, high school undocumented immigrant students are eligible to participate in concurrent enrollment and undocumented high school seniors are eligible for the tuition waiver.

Concurrent Enrollment College Courses and High School Transcripts How are college courses taken via concurrent enrollment to be listed on a student s high school transcript? When a student earns college credit through concurrent enrollment, school districts shall provide academic credit [at their discretion] for any concurrently enrolled higher education courses that are correlated with the academic credit awarded by the institution of higher education. Academic credit shall only be transcripted as elective credit if there is no correlation between the concurrent enrollment higher education course and a course provided by the school district.

Concurrent Enrollment Retention Standards High school students concurrently enrolled in college courses may continue concurrent enrollment in subsequent semesters if they achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale. NOTE: Students are not placed on probation and are not academically suspended and no notation is placed on the college transcript.

Use of Residual ACT The Council on Instruction [Chief Academic Officers] Admission, Transfer, and Retention Committee convened in early May 2011 to discuss the use of Residual ACT [R ACT]. It was determined campuses may continue use of the R ACT when students are unable to take the ACT on a national test date. Institutions may review the circumstances of students and determine when use of the R ACT is appropriate and campuses are strongly encouraged to require national ACT scores when possible. NOTE: Some campuses have chose to allow only the national ACT. Students may only take the R ACT for admission once during the year in which the version is valid (November 1 through October 31) and the test date shall not coincide with a national ACT test date.

Oklahoma High School Achieving Classroom Excellence [ACE] Graduation Requirements Starting with the May 2012 high school graduating class, students will need to pass 4 of 7 end of instruction examinations to receive a high school diploma. In a December 1, 2011 e mail, OSRHE staff communicated to the OACRAO membership that students who do not pass the required 4 of 7 are admissible under the following conditions: Community colleges using policy section C.2 [Adult Admission]; Regional and research universities using policy section B [Alternative Admission]; OR NOTE: institutions may admit up to 8 percent of the number of previous year s freshman or 50 students, whichever is higher, who do not meet regular admission criteria The president may request to the Chancellor an exception to policy if regional or research universities want to exceed their 8 percent or 50 students: A.1 Minimum High School Performance Criteria for Admission of First Time Entering Students at Research Universities; or B.1 Minimum High School Performance Criteria for Admission of First Time Entering Students at Regional Universities.

Oklahoma High School ACE Graduation Requirements and College Student Financial Aid Implications Students that fail to meet both the curriculum and testing requirements will not graduate from high school. Failure to graduate from high school will significantly limit a student s eligibility for both state and federal financial aid for college as summarized: Oklahoma s Promise Scholarship Oklahoma public school students must graduate from high school to be eligible for the Oklahoma s Promise scholarship. Students that otherwise complete the Oklahoma s Promise program requirements, but do not graduate from high school will not be eligible for the award. Federal Student Financial Aid Due to recent federal legislation, effective July 1, 2012, students enrolling for the first time in postsecondary education will not be eligible for federal student financial aid (Pell Grants, federal work study, federal student loans, etc.) unless the student has a high school diploma or its equivalent (e.g., GED) or meets certain home school requirements. Oklahoma public school students that do not graduate from high school will not be eligible for federal student financial aid unless they have achieved a recognized equivalent such as the GED.

Oklahoma High School ACE Graduation Requirements and College Student Financial Aid Implications Students that fail to meet both the curriculum and testing requirements will not graduate from high school. Failure to graduate from high school will significantly limit a student s eligibility for both state and federal financial aid for college as summarized: Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG) Eligibility for the OTAG award requires that the student also be eligible for the federal Pell Grant. Consequently, a student that does not graduate high school and therefore is not eligible for the federal Pell grant is also not eligible for OTAG award. Other Scholarships Many other institutional* or private scholarship programs require the student to be a high school graduate to be eligible for the award. Students should check the requirements of each program. *(e.g., Tulsa Achieves at Tulsa Community College, OKC GO at Oklahoma City Community College, Ticket to Rose at Rose State College, etc.)
