9 Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum Majs: Transfer Pattern to the UC CSU systems Associate s Degree General Ed Requirements Option C IGETC NOTES Completion of all requirements in the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) will permit a student to transfer from a community college to a campus in either the Califnia State University University of Califnia system without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower-division General Education courses to satisfy campus General Education requirements. Completion of the IGETC (full certification) is one option (Option C) in meeting the General Education requirements toward earning an Associate in Arts an Associate in Science degree at SRJC. Please refer to the Associate Degree Option A wksheet, page two, the current SRJC Catalog f infmation on additional graduation requirements. Completion of the IGETC is not a requirement f transfer to the CSU UC (see CSU UC Minimum Transfer Eligibility Requirements under Transfer Center in the current SRJC Catalog - n is it the only way to fulfill the lower-division General Education requirements of the CSU UC pri to transfer. Depending on a student's maj field of interest, the student may find it advantageous to take courses fulfilling the CSU's GE-Breadth requirements those of the specific UC campus college to which the student plans to transfer. It should also be noted that there might be other CSU UC graduation requirements in addition to IGETC. On UC campuses, some colleges schools do not accept the IGETC as complete fulfillment of lower division breadth. In addition, the IGETC is not recommended f some majs. Please talk to your counsel about your maj target UC campuses. F the most recent articulation infmation, see Courses from other Califnia community colleges can be used f the IGETC, if they have been approved f IGETC at that college. SRJC must apply the course to the same area as the other community college at which it was completed. Advanced Placement (AP) test sces of 3 better can be used to clear one course requirement per exam with the exception of Language Other Than English. AP credit will not fulfill Area 1-B critical thinking/composition ( 1-C al communication, required by CSU only). UC transfers who will not complete the IGETC are strongly encouraged to consult with a counsel about campus specific provisions f AP credit. F me infmation on using Advanced Placement (AP) credit to fulfill general education requirements, see SRJC Credit f Advanced Placement Exams at International Baccalaureate (IB) sces of 5, 6, 7 on some Higher Level exams may fulfill IGETC requirements except in Areas 1 5C lab. The Labaty science requirement must crespond to one of the lecture physical biological science courses taken to fulfill the IGETC requirement. A student cannot use lecture courses in two subjects a labaty in a third subject. The course requirements f all areas must be completed in der to be fully certified. All courses must be completed with grades of "C" better "P". (At SRJC, P = C grade better.) Partial certification, completing all but two (2) courses on the IGETC pattern, may be an option f some but not all students. Certain university programs may require full certification. Also, please note that minimum eligibility requirements must still be met. If you are considering partial completion, please discuss it with a counsel. There are several ways to complete the missing courses after transfer. IGETC f STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) applies only to specified Associate Degrees f Transfer (AS-T) in Chemistry Biology, primarily designed f transfer to the CSU. Students may choose to complete IGETC f STEM if the AS-T program explicitly designates the option. To keep the degree within 60, the IGETC f STEM pattern requires one less class in Area 3 one less class in Area 4, which will be completed after transfer. Please see a counsel f details. NOTE SRJC does not currently have ADT s approved in Chemistry Biology. Students must file a request f certification of the IGETC with the Office of Admissions, Recds, & Enrollment Development. UC Campus The University of Califnia will accept SRJC courses numbered However, students should not count credit earned f special topics (48) independent study (49) toward the 60 required f admission. The UC campus will evaluate these courses after admission. F the most recent list of UC transferable SRJC courses, see UC Berkeley IGETC is acceptable f all majs in the College of Letters Science. IGETC is accepted in the College of Natural Resources; however, specific lower-division maj requirements must still be satisfied. The College of Environmental Design accepts IGETC with full certification to fulfill CED s breadth requirements. The Haas School of Business does not accept IGETC. IGETC is not appropriate f the colleges of Engineering Chemistry. Check with the college visit f me infmation. UC Davis All undergraduate colleges accept IGETC. However, Bachel of Science degrees high-unit majs often have many courses of lower-division preparation. In these cases, IGETC is not recommended, the UCD GE pattern is the better choice. UC Irvine All schools accept IGETC. However, selection by the campus is based on demonstrated academic achievement preparation UCLA UC Merced UC Riverside UC San Diego UC Santa Barbara UC Santa Cruz IGETC/ page 2 (rev. 4/15/2015) f the intended maj. IGETC may not be ideal f students transferring in engineering, mathematics, science majs. The School of Engineering & Applied Science does not accept IGETC. The College of Letters & Science the School of Arts & Architecture strongly encourages Califnia community college students to complete IGETC. IGETC certification is required f admission to the Generic/Pre-licensure Nursing program. The School of Theater, Film & Television requires completion of either the School s GE requirements IGETC f admission. The School of Engineering the School of Natural Sciences do not recommend IGETC. The School of Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts strongly recommends completion of IGETC to meet general education requirements. The College of Engineering accepts IGETC, but additional breadth coursewk may be required after enrollment. The College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences does not accept IGETC. The College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences accepts IGETC. Business Administration majs must complete IGETC (recommended) the UCR breadth pattern f the College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences. IGETC is accepted by John Muir, Earl Warren, Sixth Thurgood Marshall colleges. Although IGETC is accepted at Elean Roosevelt Revelle Colleges; some additional coursewk may be required after enrollment IGETC is accepted by the College of Letters & Science the College of Creative Studies. F the College of Engineering, IGETC may be used to substitute f most GE requirements, students may wish to choose IGETC courses that concurrently satisfy a depth requirement pri to transfer with a year-long sequence in the histy of wld civilization, Western civilization, United States, Western philosophy, Western art, with upper division coursewk after transfer. IGETC is not appropriate preparation f the School of Engineering any maj in the physical biological sciences. Santa Rosa Juni College Catalog 69

10 Majs: Associate in Arts Associate in Science Degrees Maj Requirements The maj is one of several requirements students need to fulfill in der to be awarded an Associate s Degree the highest level of academic achievement recognized by Santa Rosa Juni College. Please contact the department a counsel f infmation about the selection process f any such program. Multiple Majs It is possible f a student to be awarded me than one maj upon graduation, providing that all requirements are met f each maj. F multiple majs, a single diploma with all majs listed will be issued. If one maj leads to an Associate in Science the other to an Associate in Arts, two diplomas will be issued. Coursewk Requirements the Maj Generally stated, a requirement in a maj is: A. A designated course (e.g., ART 15) B. A defined combination of courses (e.g., ART 2.1 ART 2.2) C. A set number of that can be fulfilled from a list of courses (e.g., 3 in any combination ART 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 22, 56). A student may submit a request f course substitution f maj requirements. The course substitution fm f the maj is required if the student wishes to use a course f an associate degree maj that is different than the curriculum listed in the Catalog on the Web site. The fm can be obtained in the Admissions Recds Office. The student must then submit the fm to the appropriate department f approval. Consultation with a counsel is highly recommended to assist the student with the process. Approved course substitutions apply to the requested maj only not to the SRJC General Education patterns (Options A, B, C) n any other SRJC maj. A course may be used to satisfy both a General Education Requirement a maj requirement (Title 5, 55806). However, no course may be used me than once to fulfill a requirement in the maj. Term Effective the Maj The requirements f a maj are effective beginning the semester shown f each maj. Students who began wking on the approved maj befe the effective semester may not be affected by the changes because they have catalog rights. Please Note: Catalog Rights are not applicable f degree certificate programs with a separate selection process (i.e., Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Dental Hygiene). Students will be held to the requirements listed in the maj f the year in which they actually enter the program. Students should consult with the program contact person, department chair, a counsel to determine their eligibility to complete the maj under previous requirements (see also the section on Catalog Rights in this Catalog).
