5 Introduction PASTEUR4OA (Open Access Policy Alignment Strategies for European Union Research) aims to support the European Commission s Recommendation to Member States of July 2012 that they develop and implement policies to ensure Open Access to all outputs from publicly-funded research. PASTEUR4OA will help develop and/or reinforce Open Access strategies and policies at the national level and facilitate their coordination among all Member States. It will build a network of centres of expertise in Member States that will develop a coordinated and collaborative programme of activities in support of policymaking at the national level under the direction of project partners. The Coordinator follows an Open Access information and communication strategy. This strategy is intended to increase the expected benefits for all stakeholder groups, and specifically policy makers, research performing organisations, research funders, as well as the public, thus ensuring the impact of the project, its findings and progress. The objective of task 5.1 is the promotion and dissemination of the project s work, through the design, development and hosting of an appealing and userfriendly website that will catalogue and present the project outputs, describe its progress and promote the project events and activities. The project s official website is the main point of reference for the project PASTEUR4OA, a living window of the project and will be constantly updated with the latest results achieved throughout the entire lifecycle of the project. The project website has been developed by the Coordinator under task 5.1. Its sections contain information on the project, news, events, deliverables and the project partners. At the centre of the Homepage, the website presents a Welcome note that introduces the user to the project and its aims. The news of the project holds a predominant space, combining a slider with a text space, where the three latest news pieces are shown. A twitter feed and the events section follow the news section. At the bottom of the homepage, the project partners logos are displayed on a slider. 5

Log in/log out button to be used by project partners only The PASTEUR4OA Logo has a central role at the homepage, indicating the main scope of the website and declaring its identity. 9

10 1.2. Lower tab row Home tab The Project tab, which provides information on the project, its aims and objectives, as well as its expected impact. News tab, which redirects to the News section. The section hosts all news, articles and outputs of the project and displays them in chronological order (organized by date from the latest to the oldest). 10

11 Events tab which shows all the events organized by the project. The upcoming events are shown at the top of the page, whereas, by scrolling down one can see the past events. Each project event will have a separate event page where information will be uploaded before the event (description, registration form, agenda, speaker list, useful information about the venue and accommodation, etc), as well as information after the event, such as the presentations Deliverables tab, which redirects to the respective page, where all public deliverables/reports of the project are presented as soon as they are published. Resources tab. This page stores useful resources, mainly those produced by the project, related to the project s goals (policies, guidelines, articles, etc) Partners tab. All partners (logo and brief information text) are presented through this section. 11

Technical Specifications For the development and implementation of the web platform the coordinator used the CMS - Content Management System Drupal ( The Drupal system is a powerful and popular open source platform for content management, which can be configured appropriately to support the needs of the project. It offers an environment through which the user can easily and quickly add content, edit or delete plain text or rich content with pictures and files. Furthermore, it requires the existence of a database that stores the content, a web server and the local file system, which contains all the code and application source files. For the purposes of the PASTEUR4OA project the Coordinator used the 7.14 version of the Drupal system was used, in combination with the PostgreSQL database ( as well as the Nginx web server. Three main roles have been set on the specific online platform: The anonymous user who has access to the content published on the platform The advanced user (editor) who has additional content management rights (add, edit and/or delete content) The system administrator who is responsible for the overall management, control and maintenance of the system. 13 The authentication and authorization procedures of the users in the Drupal system perform using a single list that contains the data from a set of users. The technology used in this case is the LDAP technology (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol).
