3 I. Introduction The institution that became Salahaddin University-Erbil was founded in 1968 in Sulaimani. In 1981, the university was moved to Erbil and the name was changed to Salahaddin University-Erbil. Salahaddin University-Erbil is the oldest and largest public comprehensive university in Kurdistan region. It is the educational home to more than 26,000 undergraduates and more than 900 graduate students. Salahaddin University- Erbil offers more than 75 undergraduate majors and award degrees at the certificate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. The programs include: Engineering, Science, law & Politics, Agriculture, Business & Administration, Physical Education, Art and Sociology, Fine Arts, Languages, Religion, and Teaching methods. Salahaddin University-Erbil has more than 1700 academic staff and 4,000 employees in administration and professional staff. The instructional, research, and service missions of the University reflect the needs of the respective geographic areas. The University also serves state wide, national, and international needs by offering consultancy, educational and research activities in communities throughout the state and through research and training exchanges and world-wide partnership programs. In this way, Salahaddin University- Erbil has enriched the cultural, political, and industrial sectors of Kurdistan for four decades, playing a major role in the advancement of Kurdish society. Salahaddin University-Erbil is proud of its status as a leading higher education Institute in the Region. Our name and logo are important assets that have recognition around the world. These identity standards are developed to provide a foundation for uniform application of key visual elements that make up Salahaddin University-Erbil. Consistent use of these elements is necessary to create an accurate picture of Salahaddin. Our guidelines include standards for all media, including publications,

4 advertisements, Web-based information and collateral materials plus templates for you to use in all of your communications. Use of the identity standards aligns and strengthens all of our communications both on campus and off. II. Copyright Salahaddin University s name, logo, seal, mascot and other identity assets have intrinsic, reputational and marketing value to the university and its alumni. To protect them and ensure they are used appropriately, the following policies and guidelines have been established. Salahaddin University s name and official marks are protected by copyright and may not be used without written permission from the office of the president. All uses of Salahaddin University s trademarks must incorporate the appropriate trademark designation symbols. Only the Office of the president, may claim copyright or trademark rights to university trademarks or seek to register any design that incorporates university trademarks. Salahaddin University s name and official marks may not be incorporated into offcampus business telephone numbers, Internet addresses or domain names. Nor may they be used by private and/or corporate businesses in the sale of commercial products or advertising. News media are not required to obtain a license when using current trademarks to convey news and information. Salahaddin University-Erbil welcomes mutually beneficial partnerships with businesses and other organizations. However, to protect Salahaddin University s reputation and avoid misunderstanding, please use the following guidelines when referring to Salahaddin University-Erbil.

5 o Salahaddin University does not endorse or do testimonials for products or services. Department is a client of X Technology Group or has purchased X product ). o Promotional announcements that identify a unit at Salahaddin University-Erbil University as a customer must be specific and accurate (e.g., it is not Salahaddin University-Erbil that is purchasing software, but the Salahaddin University Information Technology Department ). o Photographs of identifiable Salahaddin University landmarks, buildings, statues, etc., which imply an endorsement of a product or service are not permissible (e.g., an advertisement for a new car parked in front of the Old Library). o Accurate statements which describe a fact but do not express an endorsement may be allowable with advance permission from the Office of the President (e.g., Rice University s Tele-communications

6 III. The University Mission & Vision 1. The Mission Statement The mission of Salahaddin University-Erbil is to serve the people of Kurdistan, the Middle East and the World through the discovery, creation and application of knowledge, art and academic values. and in developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future. 2. The Vision Salahaddin University-Erbil educates a diverse student body to become responsible global citizens and future leaders through a challenging learning environment, through the dissemination of knowledge by teaching, publication, research and community engagement. As a comprehensive public research and teaching university with national and global reach, the University cultivates an academic environment in which the highest standards of intellectual integrity and scholarship are practiced. Students at the University learn from and collaborate with Academic Staff who are at the forefront of their disciplines. The University faculty and staff are committed to helping students excel. We preserve academic freedom, promote diversity and equal opportunity, and respect individual beliefs. We advance rigorous interdisciplinary inquiry, international involvement, and social responsibility. IV. The University Name and It's Quick- Read Version The official name of the university is زانکۆی سهالحهدین-) (Salahaddin University-Erbil The abbreviation SUH has been widely.(ههولێر used in media for quick-reading, the H letter is because of the local name of the city (Hawlȇr). The SU abbreviation is also used officially in documentations. V. The Web Domain The official web domain of Salahaddin University-Erbil is: But because of the technical problems in the Iraqi Internet country code and domain hosting, many of the staff still use their individual s via general hosting.

7 VI. The Logo 1. Shield The shield is the primary graphic component within our identity system. The shield draws from historic roots of Erbil and features the Ancient Erbil citadel, the Choli minaret, an Ayah from the Holly Quran, Symbols of agriculture characteristic of Erbil. The shield combined with the primary word mark creates the official Salahaddin University-Erbil logo. Color is as significant to a graphic identity as images, symbols, and marks. The official colors of the University are Dark Red, Yellow and White. In some cases Blue and Black are also used. The Hex Code for the official Colors are: Dark Red hex: 89181A Yellow hex: FFFF00 Green hex: 00A652 Blue hex: 0090DA Black hex: White hex: FFFFFF The Shield of Salahaddin University-Erbil Note: Do not alter or attempt to recreate it in any way

8 2. Primary logotype (Wordmark) The primary logotype is a unique typographic Signature that displays Salahaddin name in Kurdish and Latin alphabets. The typefaces used in the wordmark are Arial and Times New Roman for the English lettering, the Ali_K_Hasan for the Kurdish lettering and are used for promotional materials. The wordmark is written in Black on a white background, or in Yellow on a Dark Red background. Whenever a wordmark is used, surround it with 1/8 width clear space to ensure its visibility and impact. No graphic elements of any kind should invade this space. Note: Do not alter or attempt to recreate it in any way

9 3. The Logo The logo consists of the shield and the logotype. The shield must be on the left or bottom of the logotype. It should not be redrawn, digitally manipulated or altered. It must always be positioned on the left or centre of a page. There are four approved versions of the logo. The Horizontal Version of the Logo The Vertical Version of The Logo

10 4. The Black and White Shield For black and white printing, a special outline of the shield is developed. This version is used for black and white official letters and special promotions. 5. Tagline As we have mentioned before, Salahaddin University-Erbil is the oldest and largest public comprehensive university in Kurdistan region. Whenever the name University alone (Zanco in Kurdish) is mentioned in Erbil, the public understand that it is Salahaddin University-Erbil. To be proud of this statement, the Tag (Kurdistan's Capital University) is used in special promotional and documentation production. Use the Italic Font Type (Mistral) only in lettering the tag. 11 VII. Units, Colleges, and Departments Independent logos for university-supported units, colleges and departments are not approved for publication or merchandise use. The unit name within the presidency office should appear in Kurdish and English below the logotype in Ali-K-Tradition and Italic Time New Roman font types. Symbols representing professional affiliation or vision/mission of an area or unit may be used, but separately from the university, college, or department's name. The name of the Colleges and departments should be aligned with the SU vertical logo only. Research and established Centre's may develop their own logo, but the logo of Salahaddin University-Erbil should be included in a clear format. Approved Versions of Colleges and Departments Title

12 VIII. Stationary 1. Official Letterhead, Notecards, and Envelopes Only administrative offices, academic departments, and established centers that have been approved through appropriate administrative channels can use university stationery. Notecards may be designed as per department's interest and personalized, but it should contain University's Logo, both Shield and logotype.. Example of an Envelope

13 2. Business Card Two formats of business cards approved for official university use are shown at right. The standard business card accommodates up to10 lines of text, an option to include a cell phone number and personal s.

14 3. Livery The University logo should appear on the side and on the back of University vehicles. Where required, the office, department or faculty name should be positioned and set in the same proportions as for the stationery design and the exclusion zone should also be observed.
