1 ABOUT US Our values We run Vestjyllands Højskole because we believe in something. We believe that every single person can more than it believes itself. We believe that we can create the environment where you can develop your skills professional and social. Our wish is to be a folk high school with a wide range of subjects, so we can inspire and learn from each other. We wish to be create a community and create a understanding of democracy. We run the school after few but important values: Vestjyllands Højskole will place the emphasis on general, mind broadening education on Danish ground. Vestjyllands Højskole is creative school and is a place for the creative students, a place for expressions and a place for wonder and reflection. A place to explore the diversity of life in the World of today as well as in the World of our ancestors. It is our aim to Focus on personel development Be a cultural center for the region Open up our minds to the personal, local, national and global life. Show how you in practice with few and easy steps can take responsibility for our environment. Put emphasis on curiosity, courage, dedication, knowledge, creativity and intellectual expression. See all people are different and equal. Weight the conversation and the democratic process The community The community creates the future. The community starts up new things, starts a development. The community changes the World. The community makes it worth living, and not bricks, hospitals or written policies about sustainability. At Vestjyllands Højskole, the focus is on the community. We believe that by being together, something grows, and something starts up. We believe that a friendship created in the cooking class or in the theater, class is as important as the right dance steps. To meet and to be together as humans is one of our values, and we do use energy and time to create new relations.

2 When we ask the students why they started at our school the answer is generally that they wanted to improve skills within their subject and because they wanted to develop in social relations and meet new friends. We create the environment, so you have the possibility of growing professionally and socially in a community with new friends. The association We have a set of articles of association to be followed, which among others tell us about election to the board, general meetings, operations and finances. The articles of associations is only available in Danish, but please contact us for further information. Board The board of Vestjyllands Højskole is selected at the general meeting each year. At the general meeting, the board is elected by members of the school. The board is responsible for the overall running of the school and therefore the supreme authority. The board hires and dismisses the headmaster, approve the educational plan and courses program, and create the financial frame. The board meets 4 times a year. The board consists of 9 persons, of which 7 are elected at the general meeting and 2 are members of the students association. The members are chosen for 4 years. Each year are 2 members to be re-elected. When you have been at student at Vestjyllands Højskole, you are a part of the club. One of those who attended a course at Vestjyllands Højskole. A former student. You will never forget the best time of your life, the memories and the feeling of walking in Velling. This community, which we have all been a part of, is worth keeping alive. The spirit will keep living in all of us, but the close relationship to the school might come to a distance unless you will become a member of the student association. Each year we meet a weekend at the school and everything awakens. You will meet your old friends, make new friends and feel the spirit of the school again. Vestjyllands Højskole is a cultural landmark in the west wind and has done so for more than 45 years. The headmaster, teachers, students and guests through the last 45 years, has created the life at the school. 4 In the middle of the nature, there is a small unique place called Vestjyllands Højskole. We are situated south of Ringkøbing, with the view to the fjord and on a clear day we can see the North Sea as well. The folk highschool is situated in the western part of Denmark in the nature. We are 5 km away from the old borough of Ringkøbing. The nearest village is Velling 1 km away. If you have to arrive by public transport, we have good connections to Ringkøbing: X-bus from Aarhus via Silkeborg and Herning 7-10 times a day. Ringkøbing in the middle of the rail between Esbjerg and Struer, meaning there are trains form north and south every hour. Do you arrive from Copenhagen you can take the train to Ringkøbing with change in Esbjerg. Do you arrive by plane to Billund, you have to take a bus to Esbjerg, and from there the train to Ringkøbing. The school owns a minibus, but it is primarily to be used in the education. However, you may use it for visiting the doctor, transport to the station in Ringkøbing and other small but important issues. Find us at google map!
