Presentation Objectives Describe the basics of Pre-natal care and who has access to it? Describe who can provide Prenatal care and the latest trends in practice (i.e Centering group prenatal care ) Describe what pre-natal care looks like around the world especially where I studied Medicine in Cuba and in Ghana Describe how prenatal care can play a role in decreasing Maternal Mortality including the complications that can be detected, prevented and managed with care. Describe clinical indicators of when a cesarean section is medically necessary to save the life of both mother and child

Maternal and Child Health Statistics It s estimated that TWO women die everyday in the United States from pregnancy and child related conditions Women who do not receive prenatal care are 3-4 times more likely to die than women who do receive prenatal care. Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal care are 3 times more likely to have a low birth weight & 5 times more likely to die than those born to mothers who do get care.
