Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service provides a range of services to women, young people, families and children across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. We provide services in four areas - women and girls, young people s services, families and financial inclusion. Programs include youth support services, financial counselling, housing, microfinance loans, family violence and wide-ranging family and children s services. We also undertake social policy research and advocacy. We rely on our mission to determine, guide and value our work. Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service is a member of the network of national and

international organisations of the Good Shepherd Sisters. Service Area and program Young people s services are offered in Abbotsford and St Albans and include general support, mentoring programs, and support for young people in schools and youth housing services. Funding is a mixture of government funding through the Department of Human Services (Victoria), Vic Roads, local government and philanthropic partners. Youth Housing includes three workers based at Abbotsford. The program works closely with their LASNs, Access points and transitional housing managers. The programs are both part of the roll out of the Opening Doors program of the Victorian government. The School Focussed Youth Service and the Engage! program are run from St Albans. A joint project, the St Alban s young people s space, is operated in conjunction with the western region Migrant Resource Centre. A case management youth support program, Pre Driver Education, the L2P program and a community development project with the local primary school are all currently offered in Abbotsford. DHS standard Position summary The Senior practitioner, Young people s services works across the young people s services team. The senior practitioner will apply program and professional knowledge in the management of more complex cases in an agreed case load and provide supervision, secondary consults and guidance to other staff. The senior practitioner will also provide feedback and guidance on work practices and program procedures and collect and report data. The Senior Practitioner will but provide supervision and support to workers across the two sites (St Albans and Abbotsford) but be based in Abbotsford. Maintain currency of professional skills and knowledge. 8. Manage own role and responsibilities, working both independently and as a contributing team member. Key selection criteria 1. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community development. 2. Tertiary qualifications in youth work, social work or psychology (eligible for membership to AASW, or appropriate psychological equivalent), education. 3. Demonstrated case management experience with vulnerable young people from diverse backgrounds (e.g. homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse/dependence, CALD and Indigenous backgrounds and/or people with disabilities). 4. Demonstrated experience in supporting and mentoring staff and the capacity to provide regular formal supervision. 5. Demonstrated experience in the provision of intake, assessment, case management and/or case coordination services. 6. Demonstrated understanding of the youth services sector and the policy context. 7. Highly developed written (reports, correspondence, case notes, records entry) and oral (liaison, consultation, negotiation and telephone) communication skills and interpersonal and advocacy skills. Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) All employees are required to carry out their duties in a manner that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others by reporting all incidents and injuries as well as co-operating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve OH&S. Pre-existing injury People appointed to this position will be required to disclose any preexisting injuries or disease that might be affected by employment in this position. The organisation s collective agreement was negotiated with all staff and the Australian Services Union. The agreement offers many benefits. Salary packaging Salary packaging allows you to increase the tax free component of your salary. If you take advantage of salary packaging, your take home pay is increased. In addition to salary sacrifice to superannuation, Good Shepherd offers additional salary packaging for up to 30% of your salary, capped at a maximum of $16,000. Other salary packaging options may also be available.
