FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND LAW Department of Politics and Public Policy Senior Lecturer in Project Management Full Time, Permanent Grade G: 36,672-46,414 per annum The Faculty of Business and Law wishes to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Project Management with specific responsibility of leading the highly successful MSc in Project Management degree. Although the programme is based in the Department of Politics and Public Policy, which has major strengths in the area of Public Policy and Governance and has an excellent track record in research income generation, applications are welcome from candidates who are able to make a research contribution to other areas of the Business School. You should either have completed, or be on the point of completing, a Ph.D in a relevant subject area. You will have experience of teaching in the area of project management within a higher education and/or professional practice environment. You should be familiar with the practices of project management, including from a research perspective and will have demonstrated an ability to publish in research journals. You will lead the MSc Project Management degree, including teaching on the MSc Project Management, supervising MA and Ph.D dissertations, and contributing to teaching in the Department as appropriate as well as undertaking administrative duties. Job Description Senior Lecturer in Project Management Faculty of Business and Law Grade: G Role profile: TAR2 Full Time, Permanent Duties of the role Overall purpose of the role This permanent appointment is one of four new full-time posts that the Department will have made in 2016. This post is focussed on strengthening research and teaching expertise in Project Management and to contribute to the overall teaching and research provision within the Department and the Faculty. The person appointed will benefit from a mentoring scheme and the ability to participate in staff development opportunities. The Department of Politics and Public Policy comprises a group of twenty-one members of staff, covering a broad range of subject areas. The Department has six Professors and 1 Reader. The Head of Department is Professor Alasdair Blair. The Department has a healthy research environment that includes the Centre for Urban Austerity on Austerity (CURA), the Centre for Comparative Housing Research (CCHR), the Health Policy Research Unit (HPRU), the Local Governance Research Unit (LGRU) and the Jean Monnet Centre of European Governance. The Department has a strong research culture, with colleagues having considerable success in securing external income generation from such bodies as the ESRC, AHRC, EU, HEA and British Academy. This appointment is to lead the MSc Project Management degree and to contribute to wider teaching in the Department. The appointment will provide an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to join a vibrant academic department. Main duties and responsibilities The post holder will be responsible for: Research Planning and executing a research programme within a relevant field. Contributing to the Department s research profile, including publishing in high-quality journals. Working with members of the Department to build collaborative research projects as appropriate. Developing research projects and grant applications. Enhancing the Department s profile by contributions to conferences, learned and professional bodies as appropriate. Act as a role model for other researchers (including Masters and Doctoral students) in the Department.

Duties of the role Teaching and Learning Teaching, assessing and contributing to the management of undergraduate and postgraduate modules. Developing the teaching of project management in the Faculty of Business and Law. Initiating, supervising and assessing student projects. Developing the subject, courses and modules with the staff team. Developing learning and teaching and contributing to projects where appropriate. Enhancing the Department s profile by appropriate professional activity. Academic Administration Undertaking programme leadership of MSc Project Management. Assisting and, where appropriate, taking a leading role in the planning, dayto-day organisation and administration of courses and the local management of student experience and support. Participating in Department and Faculty meetings as and when required. To carry out relevant administrative duties associated with the post, for example with matters related to student recruitment, enrolment, induction, teaching and assessment. To participate in cross university and promotional activities such as open days, clearing and school visits. To participate fully in the University s Quality Assurance process relating to the discipline. Staff Development To undertake staff development to strengthen research and teaching skills. Health and Safety Implementing and monitoring the University s health and safety protocols and practice as required by legislation and by the Faculty s Statement of Safety Organisation. Implementing and monitoring the Faculty s risk assessment protocols. Developing further the Faculty s good practice. Undertake appropriate staff development General Perform any other duties commensurate with the job grade as reasonably required from time to time. Duties of the role To implement and monitor Health & Safety protocols and practice as required by legislation and by the Faculty s Statement of Safety Organisation. However, the post holder may be required to fulfil other ad-hoc duties commensurate with the level of the post from time to time.
