JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Director Solent Leadership Academy GRADE: Spot salary RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Principal LINE MANAGEMENT: Leadership Team RESPONSIBLE FOR: Curriculum Management Curriculum planning, delivery and performance Line management of curriculum staff Curriculum embedded Equality and Diversity Quality compliance KEY PURPOSE: To provide curriculum direction to SLA curriculum staff Key leadership in SLA curriculum planning, design and delivery. Deputise if required for the Deputy Principal in strategic areas of responsibility. Provide Governor briefings on SLA curriculum and attend Governor meetings in an advisory capacity when required. Provide dynamic and visionary curriculum leadership to ensure effective and efficient management of all SLA curriculum staffing and physical resources, in accordance with College policies, to meet identified targets and objectives. Provide continuous monitoring, control, and effective utilisation of all staffing, accommodation, facilities, and IT resources allocated to curriculum areas. 1
MAIN DUTIES Human Resource Management Staff management in accordance with the College s Human Resource Strategy and underpinning policies and procedure; 1. Manage the human resource to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of SLA curriculum staff; 2. Overall responsibility for the efficient timetabling of SLA curriculum staff; 3. Monitor effectiveness and efficiency and quality of SLA curriculum staff performance; 4. Plan and negotiate SLA curriculum resource allocations in line with SLA delivery plan 5. Act as lead recruiter for all SLA curriculum staff; 6. Ensure new SLA curriculum staff are fully integrated within the College 7. Encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, flexibility and responsiveness among the SLA curriculum staff 8. Achieving an equal overall contribution and performance from all SLA curriculum staff; 9. Confronting unacceptable SLA curriculum staff performance at the earliest opportunity; 10. Liaise directly with the HR Department in the operation of key policies and procedures 11. To provide a coaching support for the SLA curriculum staff and take a lead in management development sessions; Finance & Resources Management Finance and resources direction which optimises the utilisation of all budgets and resources allocated to the SLA curriculum in the pursuit of achieving outstanding provision for learners; 1. Operation of the resource allocation model to ensure efficient application of resources; 2. Negotiating annual non-pay budgets and monitoring their efficient operation; 3. Day to day management of the overall SLA curriculum budget; 4. Development of capital bids to support SLA curriculum growth and development; 5. Responsible for Risk Management and Health, Safety & Welfare Management across all SLA activities 6. To develop and maintain an understanding of the relevant Funding Methodology to achieve optimum levels of funding for the SLA programmes 7. Liaise closely with the MIS Department to ensure that all relevant SLA curriculum related data reporting is accurate and complete in accordance with College policy and procedure. Curriculum Management Curriculum direction for SLA curriculum staff to identify strategic and operational objectives and innovative ways of designing and delivering a quality provision. 1. Develop, maintain and agree the SLA Curriculum Plan with the Deputy Principal; 2. Negotiate annual and longer term targets with Deputy Principal and SLA curriculum staff for successful outcomes in line with the Employer Ownership Scheme targets 3. Provide technical and resource detail support for development ideas generated by the SLA curriculum staff
4. Review and analyse key marketing data to coach and direct SLA curriculum staff in planning and developing their input 5. Ensure SLA curriculum staff maintain current information and expertise in their particular specialist field; 6. Ensure SLA curriculum staff implement College policies and procedures with regards to curriculum management; 7. With the Business Development Manager develop a successful portfolio of SLA based employer responsive and full cost work. Learner Experience Responsibility for the quality of the learner experience as related to the teaching and other services supplied by the SLA team; 1. Ensure SLA curriculum support is available for pro-active and consistent marketing, promotion, and communication of the SLA programmes, though effective professional liaison with the Communications and Marketing Department; 2. Promote cross College curriculum support for Student Services and ensure that curriculum staff comply with College policy particularly in respect to the tutoring and pastoral care of students, and Equality & Diversity across the entire work of the SLA programmes; 3. Act as safeguarding representative for the curriculum and ensure that all correct safeguarding procedures and systems are in place and regularly monitored through effective liaison with the Child Protection Liaison Officer in Student Services; 4. Promote student and learner support processes and high learner satisfaction outcomes across the SLA curriculum; 5. Support SLA curriculum staff in the management of student behaviour and conduct; 6. Promote and enforce the College s Staff Code of Conduct. Quality Assurance Responsible for liaising with the College s Director of Teaching, Learning and Quality to ensure all relevant QA procedures and policies are consistently applied across the SLA curriculum. 1. Direct curriculum staff and guest speakers in strategies that will ensure Good or Outstanding provision as evidenced by grades awarded through: a. External Verification Reports b. Ofsted Inspection, c. Quality Assurance Agency for HE, d. Validated Self-Assessment e. Other External Quality Review processes; 2. Support curriculum staff in tackling potential barriers to delivering a quality provision 3. Provide recommendations through the Director of Teaching, Learning and Quality as to how the quality infrastructure and allied systems can be improved to secure highest levels of success; 4. ensuring curriculum self-assessment is always carried out effectively, in line with College Policy. Cross-College Responsibilities To take a resourceful lead role in key cross-college responsibilities to ensure co-ordinated successful implementation and operation.
General 1. Responsible for developing cross-college team working 2. Promote effective communications and development of support systems which promote a cross-college team approach; 3. Act as College lead representative to external organisations and associations relevant to the SLA programmes. 1. To adhere to Health, Safety and Welfare policies and Equality and Diversity strategies, and to comply with all relevant legislation. 2. To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the level of seniority, as determined by the Principal. 3. The post holder will be expected to participate in staff appraisal activities both as appraisee and appraiser, as required by College Policy. 4. The post is not designated Senior Post Holder as defined in the Articles of Government. However, actions of the post holder will have significant impact on the future direction of the College.
