2 Courtyard fence - Always set up facing east towards the rising sun (pointing to the future Son of Righteousness, Jesus) - 60 pillars of wood (humanity), - capped with silver (atonement), - set in sockets of brass (judgment), - upholding a fine white linen curtain (righteousness of the saints - Rev 19:8) o (This could symbolize the individual believers standing side by side displaying Christ to the world. Each one stands in it s own brass socket, could signify each responsible for his own life on Judgment Day.) - Silver (Christ s atonement) hooks held the weight of the linen (righteousness). o (Our righteousness is dependent on Christ work on our behalf.) The Gate - made of blue, purple, scarlet and fine twined linen. o (Jesus as the Heavenly One, Royal One, Suffering Sacrifice and Righteous One) - the only entrance (the WAY) into the courtyard. (John 14:6) - The Gate is half as high, but twice as wide as the Door o Matt. 22:14 For many are invited, but few are chosen. Alter of Sacrifice - All sacrifices were offered here. (only one acceptable sacrifice on Calvary) - Made of wood (Jesus becoming man to experience our infirmities) - covered completely in bronze (and take our necessary judgment for sin). - Horns on each corner (power of the blood for everyone), - 5 cubits (GRACE) x 5 cubits (GRACE) x 3 cubits (TRINITY). - The grate was solid brass so as to stand up to the intense heat and placed 1 ½ cubits from the ground (the same height from the earth as the Table and the Ark. Fellowship and Mercy both only made possible through Calvary s sacrifice). - This was the first visible piece of furniture through the Gate. Brass Laver - no wood, - made from brass from the looking glasses of the women, (the Word meant as a mirror to judge our selves (James 1:22-25)) - no dimensions (Jesus judgment is immune from human limitations.) - water in the laver was used by the priests to wash their hands and feet before entering the Tabernacle. o (Water in the Laver signifies God s Word (Eph 5:26 and many other places) by which everyone will be judged.) (A stark reality displayed here is the progressive sanctification of believers through the cleansing/washing by the Word coupled with the inevitable, limitless, pending judgment.)

3 Tabernacle Structure : Walls: - Acacia wood covered in gold, set side by side in pairs of silver (Atonement) sockets. Exo 30:13-16 All who cross over, those twenty years old or more, are to give an offering to the LORD. The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives. Receive the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, making atonement for your lives. - Each board was 10 cubits high (Grace upon Grace, 5+5) x 1 ½ cubits wide (approved by TRINTY) - 10 on each side (N&S), 6 on the end (W) and doubles at the corners 48 in all Heavy! Tent of Meeting - Coverings - ONE - Finely twisted linen white, blue, purple and scarlet - Embroided with cherubim looking down upon the worshiper. - Only layer visible on the inside of the tent of meeting. TWO - Goats Hair (goats symbolize deception, human failure, confusion). - Folded double at the front of the tabernacle (seen from the front reminder that though our sins are forgiven, our flesh is always there Ps 51:31) - Goats were also used as a sin offering (Christ as our offering for sin), - Referred to as the tent (our bodies being the temporary tent while on earth) THREE - Ram s skin dyed red. - Rams were used for consecrating priests one for a burnt offering, one for consecration. (Jesus was our High Priest (Heb 7:26-28). And dyed red to symbolize the atoning blood required by the law.) Heb. 7:26-28 Such a high priest truly meets our need one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever. FOUR (TOP) - tough, durable leather, many interpretations - badger skins, porpoise skin, seal skin, manatee, etc. - Ultimate needed 40 years of protection from rain, sun, sand, storms and was certainly not attractive/glamorous. (Isn t that a picture of the beating, torture, ridicule and shame that Jesus endured for us?) - Besides the front goatskin overhang, the only visible layer from the outside. - There are no dimensions given for these last two coverings, (signifying the boundless and immeasurable atonement and protection for those in Christ.)

4 The Door to the Tabernacle - blue, purple, scarlet and fine twined linen, with no description of the design, - hung from gold hooks (supported from heaven) - on 5 wooden/gold covered pillars (men approved by God), - set in bronze (judgment) sockets. - It separated the Tabernacle from the courtyard. - Kept those outside from seeing the beauty (the Truth) of the inner courts - Only priests could enter after washing hands and feet at the Laver - They entered it daily to keep the bread fresh on the Table, the lamps and the incense burning. Table of Showbread- - Made of wood covered in gold (He became fully man to be our Living Bread). - 2 cubits long (Fellowship) x1 cubit wide (unity) x 1 ½ cubits high (TRINITY). - It contained 12 fresh loaves of holy bread (12 tribes and God s daily provision). Aaron and his sons would share in this bread. - Made from specific recipe and placed on the table each Sabbath (Lev 24:5-9) Golden Lampstand - made of pure gold (full and perfect deity of Christ), - also beaten from one solid piece. (beaten = suffering experienced in order to gain mercy) - Seven branches 3 pairs of 2 and the seventh central upright - It was constantly burning oil (Holy Spirit). - No dimensions given (boundless, infinite nature of deity). - Made of one talent of gold, almost 1/2 million $$ (signifying the enormous cost of our redemption. - The only light in the tabernacle (John 1:9 the true light that came into the world). Alter of Incense Ex. 30:7-10 Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the LORD for the generations to come. Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it. Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD. - Special incense was burned here every morning and every evening (prayers) - Made of acacia wood (incorruptible humanity of Christ) - covered in gold (authority/deity) - Horns on each corner (power of prayer through Jesus for all and in all parts of the world) - A crown around the top (Jesus authority in heaven and victor over the enemy) - It stands directly outside the veil immediately in front of the Mercy Seat (our Mediator) 1Tim. 2:1-6 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

5 The Veil - blue, purple, scarlet and fine twined linen, with cherubim embroidered into it. (Represents Christ s flesh, his body eventually broken for us (Heb 10:20).) - Hung from hooks of gold (supported from heaven) - on 4 wooden/gold covered pillars (men approved by God), - set in silver (Christ s atondement) sockets. - It separated Holy of Holies from the Holy Place, and was only to be entered one day a year on the day of atonement and only with an offering of blood. (Heb 9:7) - Passing the veil at any other time or in any other way was punishable by death (the Life). The Mercy Seat (a symbol of the PURPOSE of Jesus) - beaten out of one piece of solid gold (beaten = suffering that was experienced in order to gain mercy). GOLD = deity. Only Deity can offer saving mercy. - Two cherubim facing towards each other focused on God s glory as He appears to Aaron. - There was a crown around the ark where it and the mercy seat joined (symbolizing KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS.) The Ark (a symbol of the PERSON of Jesus Christ incarnate) - Made of acacia wood (incorruptible humanity of Jesus) - 2 ½ cubits long x 1 ½ cubits wide x 1 ½ cubits high (5 x 3 x 3) - covered in gold inside and out (deity and glory of Jesus) Inside the Ark: 1) Stone Tablets (Jesus is the fulfillment of the law (Matt 5:17)) 2) Jar of Manna (the True Bread that came down from heaven (John 6:51)) 3) Aaron s staff that budded (resurrection, life from death (John 11:25)) Anointing Oil - Every priest and element of the tabernacle was anointed with this oil (Holy Spirit) - Made of 4 separate spices plus a hin of olive oil - May have followed the layout of the lampstand o Spirit of the Lord at the center 250 shekels of liquid myrrh for each of the top branches (= 500 wisdom & understanding) 250 shekel of cinnamon & 250 of calamus (= counsel & might) 250 shekels of cassia on each of the lower branches (= 500 knowledge and fear of the Lord) Ex. 30:22 Then the LORD said to Moses, Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant calamus, 500 shekels of cassia all according to the sanctuary shekel and a hin of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law, the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand. You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy.
