1 MCCC TO HOST COLLEGE AND CAREER EXPLORATION DAY X-TECH, College Night Set for October 27 Contact: Joe Verkennes, Director of Marketing, (734) October 9, 2015 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONROE, Mich. On October 27, Monroe County Community College will host X- TECH, a daylong open house highlighting its applied science and engineering technology programs, followed by College Night 2015, during which admissions representatives from more than 45 colleges and universities will be available to answer questions and provide information about their respective institutions. Rd. Both events will take place on the Main Campus, which is located at 1555 S. Raisinville X-TECH will be held in the Career Technology Center from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. College Night will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Welch Health Education Building. X-TECH is for middle and high school students and their parents, career-changing adults and all others interested in experiencing what it is like to study and work in the skilled trades programs offered at the college. These include programs that lead to high-demand, high-wage jobs in the areas of automotive, construction, design, manufacturing, mechatronics, nuclear technology, quality systems, robotics and welding.
2 Industry representatives will be on hand from Roush Industries, Baker s Gas and Welding Supplies, Ace Hardware and DTE Energy, Manpower and Belle Tire. Rousch Industries will display a candy-apple red 2015 Stage 3 Ford Mustang, Baker s Gas and Welding Supplies and Ace Hardware will sponsor the Miller Electric Mobile Welding Trailer and DTE Energy representatives will demonstrate a mock fuel and control rod. Colleges and universities represented will include Lawrence Technological University and Siena Heights University. There will also be information on women in science, technology engineering and math, and representatives will be on hand from the VEX Robotics Team 3547: Virus, as well as MCCC s Office of Admissions, Financial Aid Office and Office of Workforce Development (Career Services). College Night 2015 is sponsored Monroe County Counselors in cooperation with MCCC. In addition to admissions representatives from colleges and universities, grant loan and scholarship professionals will also be in attendance.
