THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF PORTUGAL IN PORTO Studying at the Porto Regional Centre of the Catholic University of Portugal The Catholic University of Portugal in Porto began its activities in 1978 with the College of Law and comprises, at present, 13 degree programs, distributed among the two campuses situated in the city of Porto: The Asprela and the. It sells all kind of books, literature and stationery. To use these devices, students should previously charge their student card in one of the coin machine located in the main hall in both campuses Restaurants and Bars There is a coffee shop located on the ground floor of the CIDEB building. There are several options in the Foz campus when it comes to meals. There are two coffee shops where you can have light meals: the School of Arts Coffee Shop, located in the School of Arts Building and another one placed in the Central Building. There is also a Canteen located on the 5th floor of the Central Building which is open from 12:00 noon till 14:00. The average price of a three course meal at the canteen is about 4. Another option, is the top floor restaurant of the Américo Amorim building, which offers buffet meals for 9, including beverages The University for Person Full Development Different moments for people who wish to make a difference The University for Person Full Development is aimed at the University Community and its goal is to contribute to the person cultural, artistic, spiritual, and social and solidary 6

7 development. Its action is based on the principles of the Church Social Doctrine. It comprehends CASO Solidary Catholic, a voluntary group with different intervention areas. A Tuna is a musical group of university students, whose natural ability is to sing serenades to beautiful girls, all night long. This concept has evolved and now, in the Portuguese Universities, there are also tunas formed entirely by women which sing a wide variety of songs. Following this tradition, the Oporto Regional Centre has two Tunas : The masculine and the feminine one. 2. ABOUT PORTUGAL AND PORTO 2.1. A daily ticket is also available for 7 which can be used for an unlimited number of bus trips, in the same day. If you use the bus or metro daily, a monthly pass is recommended. 8 Subway There is a direct subway line from the airport to the City Center. Although there is no direct subway line to the University Foz campus, you can take the subway to Casa da Música, and then take a bus to the Foz campus. There is a subway line to the. The station is Pólo Universitário, yellow line D. More information at: and Taxi The best way to get to Foz do Douro, from the airport, is by taxi. This will take approximately 20 minutes and it will cost about 18. There are several daily trains connecting the major cities in Portugal. They can offer a good price, comfort option for popular destinations. Discounts are available for students. 10 Useful Information Opening a bank account You can open a bank account as a Portuguese student. In order to do so, you need: 1. A fiscal number, which is free and can be obtained at the fiscal office or at Loja do Cidadão; 2. Copy of your passport; 3. Declaration stating that you are studying in a Portuguese University; 4. Declaration stating that you have a Portuguese address obtained in Junta de Freguesia. Banks in Portugal are opened between 8.30 am and 3 pm from Monday to Friday. They are closed on official holidays. For your convenience, you should contact the University s nearest Desk of the Banco Espírito Santo, located in the Foz campus main hall. Student Card Discount This card will give you discount in cinema, museums and transports. Mobile Phones There are several mobile phones operators in Portugal. If you wish to use a Portuguese phone company, you should go to their agencies, spread out through the city.
