1 Page 1 of 7 Drilling Performance Benchmark Metrics Overview: The primary application of the Dodson Drilling Performance Benchmark Database System is to measure and rank drilling performance for wells drilled in the offshore areas of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Benchmarking drilling performance utilizing the system automates statistical methods of measurement. Normalization of the well drilling data to be analyzed is achieved by using a built in query system to select well data to be benchmarked that profiles the characteristics of similar wells. Further normalization of the well data is accomplished by using the Mechanical Risk Index (MRI ). MRI is a proprietary algorithm that is used to measure the complexity of drilling a well. There are three separate rankings that can be viewed, depending on the user s application: 1. Individual Well drilling performance ranking 2. Peer to Peer drilling performance comparison 3. Peer to Industry drilling performance comparison There are three primary drilling performance benchmark metrics used: 1. Rate of Penetration (ROP) 2. Cost Per Foot Drilled ($FT) 3. Non-Productive Time (NPT) Benchmark Metric Definitions Below the Mudline (BML) Calculated for wellbores only by subtracting the Kelly Busing elevation footage and the water depth footage from the Final Total Depth of the well. (Also known as the seabed floor). SPUD Date (Wellbores only) The date the drill bit started turning (making hole) Kick Off Point (KOP) (Sidetracks only) Depth in the wellbore at which the sidetrack was reamed out. KOP Date (Sidetracks only) Date the sidetrack began drilling from the KOP. Final Total Depth Measured depth at which the drill bit stopped turning. Rate of Penetration (ROP) (Wellbores) - calculated by taking the footage drilled from the sea-bed (Below the Mud Line or BML) to the final total depth (FTD) reached (measured depth) and dividing it by the actual days drilling from SPUD date to the date Final Total Depth was reached. (Sidetracks) ) - calculated by taking the footage drilled from the Kick-Off Point (KOP) to the final total depth (FTD) reached (measured depth) and dividing it by the actual days drilling from KOP date to the date Final Total Depth was reached.

The Dodson Mechanical Risk Index (MRI) An algorithm calculated to normalize the complexity of the drilling process used to benchmark wells with similar key performance factors for drilling proficiency comparison. ROP Proficiency Index A ratio that benchmarks drilling performance by comparing the expected calculated ROP for a MRI value to the actual ROP for the same MRI value. Proficiency Parameters Query Screen choices that are selected by the user and used to calculate performance metrics for the industry averages to which individual wells or overall Operator Company drilling performance is compared to. (Highlighted in green on the Query Screen). By default, all Proficiency Parameter values are selected to return benchmark values averaged for all wells in the database. To get an accurate benchmark, profile the characteristics of the wells you want to benchmark your wells, and select Proficiency Parameters that best identify these characteristics.

ROP Proficiency Parameters include: o Record Source Note only Operator Participant Records have NPT, Cost and MRI values o Operator Names o Area(s) where the well was drilled o Whether the well was a Wellbore or a Sidetrack o Whether the well was a Exploration or a Development well o The Time Period in which the well was drilled o The Water Depth Range o The range of MRI value(s) the well(s) has/have Weighted Average Weighted averages are used for summary totals where the selected benchmark data has more than one well: o Example 1 ROP for a multi well data set is calculated by dividing the sum of all of the BML footage drilled by the sum of all of the days drilling. Note In the case of a batched drilled well, the column OP_FTD_DAYS is used instead of the column DDS_DRILL_DAYS o Example 2 Cost Per Foot for a multi well data set is calculated by dividing the sum of all of the drilling costs by the sum of all of the BML footage drilled. o Example 3 NPT% to Drill Time for a multi well data set is calculated first by dividing Total NPT Hours by 24 for each well then dividing the sum of the results by the sum of all of the actual Days Drilling. Note In the case of a batched drilled well, the column OP_FTD_DAYS is used instead of the column DDS_DRILL_DAYS

7 Page 7 of 7 Summary Operator Drilling Performance Benchmark: The Operator s wellbores drilled in water depths =>3,000 from 2006 thru 2009 show over all drilling performance equal to industry. There are 8 wells plotted above the industry operator participant proficiency index line and 8 wells plotted below the line. The 2 wells Operator drilled in 2009 are both plotted above the line and show better drilling performance than both industry and wells with corresponding MRI values drilled by Operator in The sample benchmark focused on one Well. This well had an ROP benchmarked at near 1 st quartile performance compared to 107 wellbores drilled in water depths => 3,000. The NPT% to Drill Time for this well was higher than the average by about 5.5%. Cost per foot was at the high end of the benchmark.

The 2 wells Operator drilled in 2009 are both plotted above the line and show better drilling performance than both industry and wells with corresponding MRI values drilled by Operator in 2008.
