1 NORWIN SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION JOB ANALYSIS Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and Student Services, the shall set the direction for their department for the maximum benefit of Norwin School District students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Works with other department heads to promote a curriculum that is vertically and horizontally articulated. 2. Assists in the yearly updating of the department s curriculum and programs. 3. Calls and conducts monthly meetings of the department to communicate District policies and procedures and files reports of those meetings with the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary Education and Secondary Education and the Director of Special Education and Student Services. 4. Works with the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Director of Special Education and Student Services, and building principals to keep department members aware of current trends in her/his specialty area. 5. Plans and monitors department budget and purchases and advises the Building Principals of department needs. 6. Assumes responsibilities for inventory and distribution of department materials, supplies and textbooks. 7. Prepares course descriptions for student scheduling in conjunction with members of the department. 8. Assists in the recruitment, screening, interviewing, training and assignment of department personnel. 9. Assists in establishing, implementing and evaluating department curriculum objectives. 10. Assists in the development and review of the Special Education Plan and Audit. 11. Assumes leadership in the textbook and resource selection process in coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary Education

Attends relevant school, District and professional meetings, including summer workshops and participates in relevant professional organizations. 13. Shares relevant special education workshops with other members of the department. 14. Acts as resource person for department members on department curriculum, and instruction, and special education questions. 15. Assists the building principal and Assistant Superintendents of Elementary Education and Secondary Education and the Director of Special Education and Student Services in working with individual department members to improve instruction and classroom teaching techniques. 16. Provides leadership to high school learning support and content area teachers in the area of inclusive practices. 17. Assists teachers and instructional aides in the delivery of support services for students with IEPs who are included in the general education setting. 18. Advocates for providing the maximum level of support for students utilizing support staff in an efficient and effective manner. 19. Assists the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary Education and Secondary Education and the Director of Special Education and Student Services in providing mentor teacher services for department inductees. 20. Assists in the evaluation, interpretation and use of appropriate test data to improve the department's curriculum. 21. Assists with the design and review of the Norwin Course of Studies Booklet. 22. Participates as a member of the Special Education Advisory Committee. 23. Participates as a member of the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee. 24. Sets an example of professionalism and leadership for other members of the department. 25. Assists at graduation exercises as required. 26. Attends the annual Scheduling Fair held at Norwin High School. 27. Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the department webpage on the District site. 28. In conjunction with members of the department and the Director of Special Education and Student Services, identifies annual goals and reports progress on the goals to respective administrators and Assistant

Performs normal teaching duties. 30. Performs other duties consistent with the position as may be assigned. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Requirements for the position include: Minimum of five years teaching experience in the respective department. Masters degree in Special Education preferred. Ability to perform the above responsibilities at a high level. REPORTS TO Building Principal and the Director of Special Education and Student Services in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Ability to appropriately handle confidential information in accordance with District policies. Ability to use technology for group meetings, presentations (i.e. overhead, document camera, projector and video equipment). Driver s License: Must have a valid PA driver s license. Clearances: Every employee must submit an Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Pennsylvania Act 24 of 2011, Act 34 (Criminal Record Check), Act 151 (Child Abuse History Check), and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Criminal History Check, renewable every three (3) years, as well as Act 126 Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training, renewable every five (5) years. Also, as of December 22, 2014, Act 168 of 2014 requires all newly hired employees to provide the District with the Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form for all previous employers/organizations in which they had direct contact with children. The District may not hire any applicant for a position until the employment history review process has been complete. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Terms and conditions of employment shall be per the Norwin Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. EVALUATION Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal and the Director of Special Education and Student Services in conjunction with Assistant Superintendent of Elementary or Secondary Education in accordance with the provisions of the Norwin Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
