He shot rounds of for a 215. He lost the title in a playoff with Scott Kelly of Sam Houston State McNeese State made a good run but came up a little short in the 2008 Southland Conference championship tournament. The Cowboys finished seventh in the field but did have a top performer in senior Sigmundur Masson who tied for the title. Masson shot rounds of for a 215. He lost out in a sudden death playoff with Scott Kelly of Sam Houston State. Masson s finish was the highest for a Cowboy since Adrien Mork placed second in the event in the 2001 season. There have been only two individual champions in McNeese history. Tim Graham won the title three straight years from 1977 to 1979 while Pat O Brien won the Gulf States Conference crown in 1966 when McNeese was in that conference. Lamar successfully defended its team title in the tournament. Other scoring for the Cowboys had Brandon Eaton tie for 24th at , Cory Vincent tie for 27th at , David Wiggins tie for 32nd at and Justin Ougel place 46th at Masson was the only senior on this year s team. All of the others will return next year.

4 MCNEESE STATE COACHING STAFF Neel Derouen Head Coach Neel DeRouen, one of the top golf instructors in the nation, is in his third season as the head golf coach at McNeese State. He has been voted Teacher of the Year by the Gulf States section of the PGA and was rated the fifth best golf instructor in the state of Louisiana by Golf Digest. A native of Lake Charles, DeRouen is the Director of Golf at Gray Plantation which has been ranked one of the top 100 courses in the nation. Prior to joining Gray, DeRouen had served as Director of Golf at the Lake Charles Country Club and was a golf instructor at LeTriomphe Country Club where he established the golf Institute at LeTriomphe. He has worked with many PGA and mini-tour players as well as countless collegiate and amateur players. Serving as the team's assistant coach is Gray Plantation head golf pro Chris Gentry. A former McNeese State player, Gentry is a 2001 graduate of McNeese State and was the recipient of the Hubert Boales award his senior year. A native of Sulphur, Gentry began his professional career as an assistant pro at Gray in 2001 and was promoted to head pro two years later. Chris Gentry Assistant Coach Gray Plantation is an 18-hole, 7,200-yard championship links golf course. It is part of the Audubon Golf Trail for the Louisiana Department of Tourism. In addition to a Top 100 ranking by Golf Digest, Gray Plantation has received numerous awards and rankings from national publications and organizations in its seven year history. Golf Academy The new Golf Academy represents the realization of an idea that began over seven years ago when the course at Gray Plantation was in the earliest planning stages. This training center is only the second in the state dedicated to a university golf program. Located on the corner of the driving range, it encompasses over 1600 square feet, including enclosed bays that open onto the driving range. Ample space is available for swing practice, equipment storage, and instruction. The facility also includes the latest technology for complete swing analysis, as well as club fitting and repair.
