Anticipatory Set/Previous Learning: Review some Spanish words and their meanings by having the students define words that are on the board on their own. Discuss what they have learned in previous lesson. These words will be used later as examples. (5 minutes) 2. Explain the concept of Morphology using English-language examples (building blocks of words, why it s important, concept of lexicon/bank) (10 minutes) 3. Further explain concept by having the students come up, a few at a time, and hold a morpheme card and rearrange in order for the class to see. (5 minutes) 4. Have the students sit back down and have students list word roots. Instructor writes the roots on the board. (5 minutes) 5. Activity: Have the students form groups to form words with the morphology handout and the word roots on the board. Briefly review afterwards (5-10 minutes) 6. Extra time in case one part goes over. If time is available, student will play matamoscas: fly swatting at morphemes on the board competing against another student after the teacher provides the corresponding morpheme. (10 minutes) Closure Have the students reform their rows. Wrap by closing, transitioning, and foreshadowing into the following days lesson that will further delve into morphemes and practice also reexamine objectives. (5 minutes) Announcements Explain the homework: what it is and that it is due in 2 days. Announce quiz (assessment) date as the end of the week. (5 minutes)
