Graduating Senior Survey Report Fine Arts - Photography, COAS Last Modified: 05/08/ What is MOST LIKELY to be your MAIN activity or activities upon graduation? (Select all that apply) Employment, fulltime paid 2 50% Employment, parttime paid Graduate or professional school, full-time Graduate or professional school, part-time Additional undergraduate coursework Military service Volunteer activity (e.g., Peace Corps) Starting or raising a family Other, please specify: 2 50% Other, please specify: Upon graduation I will be seeking a better paying job as well as looking into graduate schools. employment, full time self employed
2. As a result of all the courses I have completed at UNF, I feel that... Question I have learned to write more effectively. I have learned to communicate orally in a more effective manner. I have learned how to produce effective digital or multi-media communications. I have acquired greater skill in quantitative reasoning. I have improved in my ability to analyze quantitative information. I better understand the scientific method. I am more adept at using the scientific method. I have improved in my ability to think critically. Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Disagree Not Applicable or Don t Know Total Responses Please indicate whether or not you had any of the following experiences while enrolled at UNF. Question Yes No Total Responses Internship Worked with a faculty member on a research project outside of course or program requirements Study abroad experience 2 2 4
4. Please indicate the number of separate occasions on which you have interacted with the community in the following ways while enrolled at UNF. For example, if you were enrolled in a class that did work in the community once a week for an entire semester, count that as 14 occasions. Question Community Outreach (volunteering, philanthropy, summer camps, public performances in underserved locations, assisting in boys and girls clubs) Community-based apprenticeship (internships, field placements, supervised practicums) Immersion in a community (alternative breaks, study abroad where there is meaningful project-based immersion in a community) Community-based work for academic credit (service learning, civic engagement projects, capstone projects, public education activities) Community-based research (research project for, in, or in collaboration with the community) or more Total Responses
5. Indicate to what extent you agree with each of the following statements. Question When I think about my coursework, I am often reminded of relevant life experiences. My understanding about who I am and my role in my community has been influenced by my college experiences. I often see connections between topics I study in my major and courses outside my major. When I experience puzzling life events, I often think back to things I learned in my courses. The courses I have taken in my major have little to do with courses outside my major. I like to draw on ideas from many areas of study to solve complex problems. Sometimes the best way to communicate with others is to talk face to face. When I do a presentation, I sometimes struggle to select the best format for the audience. I feel that exploring new ways to solve a problem often leads to a good solution. When I am faced with a complex issue in my community, I think about the skills and ideas I have learned in college. I find that thinking about future implications of my actions often gets in the way of solving immediate problems. Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Disagree Total Responses
I am confident that I can relate important concepts in my major to other fields of study. People who get upset about what other people say to them are just not paying attention. If I could do my college education over again, I would take more interdisciplinary courses. Sometimes I think back to things I have done in the past that I would do very differently now if I had the opportunity. When studying my major, I find myself thinking about how the topic applies to my community. I often find that my experiences in the community help me think about topics in my major. When trying to solve a difficult problem, I find it is best to go with tried and true methods. My field of study has few real-world applications. I enjoy connecting facts and theories from one field of study to another field of study. When faced with a complicated problem, I find it helpful to draw on the knowledge and experiences of others
6. Where did you live while enrolled in college? In answering, please consider all colleges you have attended. Lived on-campus for entire college career Lived on-campus, but currently reside off-campus Lived off-campus, but currently reside on-campus Lived off-campus for entire college 3 75% career 7. What was your student class when you began attending UNF? Freshman Sophomore Junior 2 50% Senior Other (e.g., nondegree seeking student) 8. From the time you began attending UNF, how many years did it take you to graduate? (Please round to the next highest whole number.) or more
9. Considering only the time spent at UNF, I could have graduated sooner if it were not for the following reasons (choose all that apply): My required courses were not available in the term(s) I 2 50% needed them. My required courses were not offered at the times I needed 3 75% them. I withdrew or did not enroll during one or more terms. I had to retake one or more courses. I made course selection decisions that delayed my graduation. I had to work full-time or parttime. 3 75% I chose to participate in an internship or study abroad. 2 50% I took a reduced course load. I changed majors. I double majored. Courses I took before I came to UNF did not adequately prepare me. I encountered financial difficulties. 2 50% I had academic difficulties. I had health problems. I had personal or family problems. I have a documented disability. I did not seek help from my advisor, faculty or other appropriate resources. I graduated when I expected to graduate. Other. (Please Specify) 2 50% Not applicable.
10. Were you employed at any time while you were a student at UNF? (Do not include work during breaks, only while classes were in session.) Yes 4 100% No 11. On the average, about how many hours did you work for pay while enrolled at UNF? (Do not include work during breaks, only while classes were in session.) Question On Campus Off Campus Total Responses I worked 1-10 hours per week I worked hours per week I worked hours per week I worked hours per week I worked 41 or more hours per week If you had it to do over again, would you enroll at UNF? Definitely yes 4 100% Probably yes Not sure Probably no Definitely no
13. Please rate your agreement with the following statements about the value of your UNF education. Question My UNF education was life transforming. My UNF education prepared me for the career I want to pursue. My UNF education has led me to rethink my career goals. I took full advantage of the educational opportunities I had at UNF. agree Agree Neutral Disagree Disagree Total Responses Please comment on any of your answers. Text Response I wish that there was a career/business based course for my major, photography. The photography faculty is simply outstanding. Without their support and knowledge, I would not be where I am today. They will be missed by me greatly. 15. In the past academic year, how often have you reviewed any of the materials, ideas, or insights you encountered in UNF courses outside your major, including general education courses and elective courses? At least once a week 2 50% At least once a month At least once a semester Less than once a semester Not at all
16. Of all the courses that you have taken in your major, which have been the best and why? Text Response Photography based because they're oriented to my major and I was able to express my ideas successfully. I believe my favorite course in photography has been Alex Diaz's fabrication course. The course catered to my likings in photography - creating scenes before the camera. It was a great class and helped me further my techniques and skills in fabrication. Higher level courses, this is when I grew in my major and this was the time I received the most from my investment in my education Advanced Studio Lighting, Professor Malcom is very insightful and encouraging. 17. Of all the courses that you have taken outside your major, which have been the best and why? Text Response Spanish because as a native speaker in Spanish, I learned the grammar part which I came in not knowing. Sculpture. If I was not a photo major, I would be walking the roads of sculpture. The classes teach you skills that you can actually apply to the real world - using tools like drills and saws. You also learn well to apply mathematics with the use of measuring. Finally critical thinking skills - when making sculpture you have to be able to predict the outcome based in the materials you use. Even with taking just two classes in sculpture I still utilize skills I've learned in the making of objects and sets in my photography. 18. Did you take any courses in your major that were not relevant to your field of study? Yes 3 75% Not sure No 19. Please comment on your answer. Text Response French and Spanish I believe in photography even if you don't like a particular course, it's all relevant to photography. You just have to find a why to push the boundries and be different. I appreciate every course I've taken in my field.
20. What is your college? College of Arts & Sciences 4 100% Brooks College of Health Coggin College of Business College of Computing, Engineering, & Construction College of Education & Human Services

22. As a result of completing the Fine Arts (Photography) Major at UNF, I have learned to... Question Demonstrate competence in a broad range of photographic processes - analog, digital, and alternative through the successful development of a body of photographic work presented through traditional exhibition and digital means. Demonstrate an understanding of photography s diverse practical functions and cultural impact via study of photographic history and contemporary practice. Interpret and ascribe meaning in the visual arts with specific emphasis on photographic history and contemporary practice, and the ways that photographs reflect the ideas of a given culture, period and/or artist. Demonstrate the ability to analyze and critique artworks in a broad range of media, with specific emphasis on photographic works. Consider, analyze and respect values and ideas transmitted in the photographic arts that are difficult, challenging and controversial. Demonstrate an ability to articulate, in written and spoken form, the formal, technical and conceptual foundations of one s art. Demonstrate the ability to relate and analyze complex ideas in a cogent spoken/written form, and eloquently elucidate one s concepts in a precise manner within the context of a group discussion.
