2 Join Us Dear Valpo Family: The Valparaiso University Parents Council, in partnership with University Programming Council, invites you to participate in Family Weekend! This weekend is a perfect opportunity for your family to reconnect with your student while exploring Valpo s campus and all it has to offer. The weekend is about three things Valpo, family, and fun for all! Visit valpo.edu/familyweekend for further details, including a list of area hotels. Students are welcome to attend all activities be sure to include their information on the registration form. Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 9. The registration deadline to purchase Family Weekend t-shirts is Friday, Oct. 2. Register online at valpo.edu/familyweekend, or by calling We hope you will join us for this exciting weekend. Any changes or updates to the weekend schedule will be posted. Friday, Oct. 16, 6 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 a.m. 1 p.m. GUILD CARE PACKAGES Unable to attend the weekend, but want your student to know you are thinking of her or him? Order a Halloween care package provided by the Valparaiso University Guild. The package is only $25 and full of snacks and treats. Your student will receive notification when their care package is available for pick-up at the. Purchase a care package online at valpo.edu/guild. Care packages may be ordered through Wednesday, Oct. 21. OPERATION GOODY BAG Alpha Phi Omega, Valparaiso University s service fraternity, presents the opportunity to take part in Operation Goody Bag. Families can get involved by stopping by a designated table throughout the weekend to decorate bags and write thank you cards. Founded to help remember those men and women lost on September 11 and to express support and appreciation to our military men and women, veterans and first responders, Operation Goody Bag is a national movement to show appreciation by decorating brown paper bags each filled with an inspirational poem, personal letter of thanks, and candy FAMILY WEEKEND T-SHIRT Commemorate the weekend with t-shirts for the whole family. The design of the shirt will incorporate the theme of the Friday night movie, Inside Out. Shirts cost $10 each and are available in youth and adult sizes. Order yours by Oct. 2 when you register online or by phone, and pick them up during registration hours at the. If you re unable to pick them up during registration hours, please contact alumni@valpo.edu for alternative arrangements VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT, Vie Atrium Lobby The 2015 VUAA ornament will be available for purchase for $15 at registration. Ornaments from some previous years also will be available for $10. BRAUER MUSEUM OF ART Valparaiso University Center for the Arts Works from the Brauer Museum of Art s permanent collection will be on display. Admission is free with donations welcome. Test your trivia knowledge, let your little ones color, or just hang out together and catch up. 8 p.m. FAMILY MOVIE, Ballroom All ages are welcome for this viewing of Inside Out. Seating and floor space will be available. Children may bring pillows and blankets, and even dress in pajamas! University Programming Council will provide free popcorn. 8 p.m. FALL THEATRE PRODUCTION: GODSPELL BY JOHN MICHAEL TEBELAK Center for the Arts, University Theatre A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville are employed as the story of Jesus life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and non-valpo students, and free to Valpo students, faculty, and staff. Tickets can be purchased at the Center for the Arts Box Office prior to the performance, or by calling the Box Office at :30 9:30 p.m. PUBLIC OBSERVATORY OPEN HOUSE Campus Observatory (Neils Science Center 224 in event of poor weather) 9:30 10:30 p.m. PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION, SARA-SOUTH TELESCOPE (CHILE) Neils Science Center :30 a.m. CRUSADER BREAKFAST, Founders Table Gear up for game day at this a la carte breakfast. Meal cards or cash will be accepted. 9 a.m. 1 p.m. ADMISSION OFFICE Duesenberg Welcome Center The Duesenberg Welcome Center will be open for families to peruse the exhibits. Prospective students may sign up for a 10 a.m. information session followed by a campus tour. Department Open Houses 9:30 10:30 a.m. CHRIST COLLEGE Mueller Hall, Commons Members of the Christ College Student Advisory Board and other members of the (CC) dean s staff will be present to greet families, answer questions, and provide information about Christ College. 9:30 11:30 a.m. CAREER CENTER After graduation from college, one of the most important questions your student will have is, how can I find a job? Stop by the Career Center for coffee, conversation, and breakfast to learn about all the services and resources we offer to help your student succeed in life after Valpo. This event is an open house. Come when you can and leave when you must. 9:30 11 a.m. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Gellersen Center Eric W. Johnson 87, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering, will be available for a Q&A session in Gellersen 120, while facilities and labs will be open for viewing. Parents and family members of current or prospective members are invited to stop by the Open House to learn about the activities and accomplishments of the Valparaiso University fraternity and sorority community. 10:30 11:30 a.m. COLLEGE OF NURSING AND HEALTH PROFESSIONS LeBien Hall The Virtual Learning Center will be featured, with students demonstrating the SimBaby, SimMan, and other functions of simulation technology in nursing and health professions education. 10 a.m. 1 p.m. OUTING TO INMAN S BOWLING AND RECREATION CENTER 3201 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN Join us as we venture off campus to Inman s Bowling and Recreation Center. Bowling, billiards, mini golf, go karts, and more! Ample parking will be available, as the venue is open only to Family Weekend participants. For $22 per person, you receive: All-you-can-eat pizza and endless soft drinks Unlimited access to any of Inman s numerous entertainment options, including bowling, mini golf, go karts, and more! Purchase of tokens required for arcade games. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited, so register early! Meal cards or cash will be accepted on site. 5:30 9 p.m. CAMPUS CARNIVAL, Ballrooms A & B Come see the ballroom transformed into a festive campus carnival! Inflatables and carnival games will fill the room, with interactive activities available for the whole family. Take part in games sponsored by the University Programming Council, Alumni Relations, Graduate School, American Society of Civil Engineers, and Information Technology. This event is free, and all ages are encouraged to attend. 5:30 9 p.m. DANCE MARATHON SILENT AUCTION Help support the Valparaiso University Dance Marathon and Lurie Children s Hospital of Chicago by participating in the ValpoDM Silent Auction during Family Weekend. Bid on a wide array of items that are perfect for students and families alike! 7:30 9 p.m. LUCE CONCERT BAND, COMMUNITY/ UNIVERSITY CONCERT BAND CONCERT Conducted by Jeffrey Scott Doebler 87 M.M., director of music education and bands, the Luce Concert Band and Community/University Concert Band present their fall concert. Admission is free p.m. PERFORMANCE BY NICK PIKE, Ballroom C University Programming Council is excited to welcome Nick Pike, former participant on America s Got Talent, to campus to perform his worldrenowned juggling act! Our featured speaker will be Faisal Kutty, professor of Law and 2015 Valparaiso University Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award recipient.
