Tommy and Belli prevailed with a confidential settlement after six days of trial. Tommy s successes continue today as he and his son and law partner, Adam, work together to obtain justice for those harmed by the negligence of others. Adam, also a native of Albany, more recently returned to their hometown in 2008, where he obtained a $24 million verdict on behalf of a 14-year-old athlete who suffered an unnecessary and preventable amputation of his right leg due to medical negligence of an orthopedic physician, the physician s medical group, and a hospital s nurses. Together, Tommy and Adam annually obtain multimillion dollar recoveries on behalf of their clients involved in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful those cases, because fundamentally, if a person isn t safe from sexual assault in an operating room, where can they be safe? Tommy says. Superior results and a longstanding reputation for integrity have led to numerous honors for both Malones. I m experienced at spotting issues and then assembling the right people to work on the case, whether representing the plaintiff or the defendant, he says. Recently, Pannell originated and served as class counsel in class actions against television shows such as American Idol and Deal or No Deal. The cases involved premium text message charges in connection with contests run by the shows, and a settlement was recently approved to reimburse all class members 100 percent of their damages. During his 25-year career, Pannell has also handled many significant environmental cases. When I was first starting out back in the 80s, environmental law was a hotbutton issue, he says. What interested me about this area was that the regulatory scheme had just come into place and was exposing a lot of things that companies had kept secret. Some of Pannell s notable environmental cases include an $8.6 million settlement for more than 250 property owners affected by a nearby wood treatment facility the first case of its kind to be certified in Georgia. He also secured a record $45 million verdict for property owners whose streams were polluted by acid mine drainage from strip-mining operations and served as lead counsel for large neighborhoods affected by arsenic in Fort Valley and illegal hazardous waste in Tifton.
