Administrators received great interest in this program from students and industry alike, with Ingalls Shipbuilders and Performance Contractors contacting the school interested in hiring future graduates. The program will cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to, gas metal arc welding, carbon steel pipe welding,

3 *Updated August 2015 shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, oxyfuel cutting, and occupational communication skills. After first class of 13 is graduated, Virginia College expects to begin graduating 13 every quarter. 4 CUSTOMIZED INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AIDT» AIDT, the state s workforce training program, offers comprehensive pre-employment selection and training, leadership development, on-the job training and industrial safety assessments and training all specific to a qualifying company s needs. In Mobile, AIDT operates the Alabama Aviation Training Center and the AIDT Maritime Training Center.» No cost to the business Alabama Technology Network» A part of the Alabama Community College System and Alabama s affiliate with the National Institute of Standards and Technology s Manufacturing Extension Partnership, ATN s team of experts provides services through a variety of training options and methods, including Lean manufacturing training, quality services training, continual improvement methods, environmental health and safety training, industrial maintenance training, and many more.» Breakdown of services offered: 29%: Environmental Safety and Health 21%: Quality Systems 16%: Lean 12%: Industrial Maintenance Other 22%: Quality Engineering, Information Technology, HR and Organizational Development, Business Services/Strategic Management, Engineering and Technical Services» In Region 9 in 2014, ATN served 377 clients and saved manufacturers a total of $58.6 million. Mobile Works» Mobile Works provides comprehensive employment, career counseling and job training services to businesses through the one-stop Alabama Career Center in Mobile. It also offers jobseekers training designed to help them find better job opportunities.» Mobile Works helps local businesses leverage their training investment and add profit back to their bottom line. Mobile Works On-the-Job Training program pays up to 50 percent of costs to train a company s eligible new hires from 11 to 26 weeks; while Mobile Works Incumbent Worker Training program pays up to 50 percent of a company s total training costs for existing staff, up to $15,000 maximum per contract. Businesses cover the other 50 percent of costs and may provide in-kind contributions, as well as cash, toward the match.
