The first NSLDS check is completed to ensure no new federal student loans and/or TEACH grants were disbursed after the physician signature date. 4. Verify the physician s license and determine whether or not the application supports the conclusion that the borrower is totally and permanently disabled. 5. The medical review determines whether there is evidence that the borrower has the ability to work. 6. The second NSLDS check is completed to ensure no new federal student loans and/or TEACH grants were disbursed after the physician signature date. 7. The Federal Student Aid (FSA), a division of the Department of Education, reviews the application for final approval. 8. Review of application complete. Three-year monitoring period begins.
