1 Position Description: Full-Time Faculty, Health Care Administration University Mission: Concordia University is a Christian University preparing leaders for the transformation of Society. College Mission: The College of Health and Human Services provides a strong academic background for students to develop professional competence grounded in compassion and high regard for human dignity and well-being. Graduates of the program will promote physical, social, emotional, community and organizational well-being as appropriate to the responsibilities of their discipline. The college prepares them to provide transformational leadership to promote positive change within organizations and the community. Department Mission: The mission of Concordia University s Health Care Administration program is to prepare health care managers and leaders who exemplify a high level of professional competence, community service awareness, servant leadership, and personal commitment to maintaining human dignity. Position Title: Full-Time Faculty, Health Care Administration (1) Position Goal: The HCA Full-Time Faculty 1 position requires an individual with strong HCA practice and academic experience and leadership skills. The person filling the position has primary teaching responsibilities within the HCA program that include, but are not limited to, course development and design, classroom instruction, and student learning experience support on ground and online program areas. Essential Responsibilities The Full-Time HCA Faculty 1 position is responsible for course design, classroom instruction and student support including, but not limited to: 1. Course design and curriculum development ground and online 1
2 a. Assists with the design and maintenance of current on-ground course curriculum b. Assists with the design and maintenance of online course curriculum as assigned 2. Classroom instruction a. Prepares course syllabi and materials including student instructional packets (with copyright permissions as needed) b. Orders course textbooks according to established timelines c. Teaches assigned courses to meet course outcomes d. Effectively uses classroom technology and learning platforms e. Effectively uses a variety of instructional approaches and techniques f. Provides timely and effective student performance feedback g. Documents assigned grades 3. Online instruction a. Prepares course syllabi and materials (with copyright permissions as needed) for assigned online courses. b. Teaches online courses and/or hybrid courses as assigned 4. Student support a. Supports the HCA Club b. Prepares the student newsletter c. Responds to student issues and concerns with appropriate coaching and referrals as needed 5. Participates in HCA program meetings and other program activities 6. Provides leadership for the student internship experience 7. HCA program support a. Program accreditation 2
3 i. Assists with development and maintenance of program infrastructure including policies, procedures, protocols, and systems that meet program accreditation standards. ii. Maintains quality and professional instructional and personal standards consistent with program accreditation standards b. HCA community liaison i. Attends professional meetings and maintain relationships with professional organizations ii. Maintains professional relationships with health care organizations and health care related community organizations within the area c. Program quality management i. Conforms to quality measures for program excellence ii. Reviews course assessments and responds to areas for improvement 8. Performs other duties as assigned Professional Qualifications: Academic: 1. A master s or terminal degree in health care administration or related field. 2. A minimum of 5 years successful academic experience at the university level that includes teaching and course design and development. 3. A minimum of 5 years successful experience with online learning. Professional background: 1. A minimum of 5 years successful management experience in health care organizations. 2. A minimum of 5 years broad based experience in both clinical and non-clinical health care department operations. 3. A comprehensive understanding of the health care industry and its components 3
4 The criteria of successful leadership Demonstrate personal values consistent with the core themes of the University, i.e. Lutheran, Rigor, and Servant Leadership Ensure the faculty, staff, academic programs and other activities advance the University missions Give focus to the academic programs, community engagement strategies, and faculty selection and development in order to distinguish the program from like programs in other organizations Build name recognition, quality, and prestige consistent with the core themes and core means of the University. Leadership and Administrative Style: As a key program leader, the HCA Chair will be expected to: 1. Possess the ability to a. Model spiritual leadership to faculty, students, and other members of the HCA department, so that the department achieves desired spiritual outcomes. b. Demonstrate servant leadership and promote the Christian ethics of the department from a distinctly Lutheran lens. c. Communicate with warmth, respect, and understanding with administration, faculty, students, and other members of the HCA department, and University personnel. d. Collaborate with other departments, disciplines, and organizations to further the mission and values of the organization and to support student success. e. Create community liaisons that support students in their educational and career goals. 2. Demonstrate a. Collegial, dynamic and ethical Christian leadership style b. Collaboration and servant leadership 4

A commitment to excellence Staff relationships: Reports to: Supervises: Hired/appointed by: Exempt/non-exempt: Dean, College of Health & Human Services N/A The Provost Exempt Salary Level (1, 2, 3, 4, or program director): HCA Full-time Faculty Assessment Schedule: This position is evaluated annually through a formal performance review and assessment conducted by the Dean of the College of Health & Human Services.
