3 LEARNING TARGETS Participants will learn how to begin the process of creating a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP). Participants will use their data to create their beliefs, mission and vision statements for their particular schools. Participants will learn best practices for organizing mission, belief and vision statements that are focused on: students, school counselor and school counseling program.

4 CAMPBELL COUNTY SCHOOLS: A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US District Highlights: Campbell County High School-serves over 1,500 students, only 1 high school in our district Campbell County Middle School-serves over 1,100 students, only 1 middle school in our district Campbell County Day Treatment serves grades 6-12 Regional Juvenile Detention Center We have 5 elementary schools: Campbell Ridge Elementary, Cline Elementary, Crossroads Elementary, Grants Lick Elementary, Reiley Elementary- serves over 2,000 students We serve students from rural, urban and suburban areas. Over half of our students in the district receive free and reduced lunch. Nationally Recognized High School Newsweek Distinguished/Progressing District

5 GETTING STARTED WITH ASCA RAMP CERTIFICATION Five Bits of Advice for ASCA National Model Implementation 1: Remember, the purpose of the ASCA National Model is to do more school counseling. 2: Keep it simple. 3: The ASCA National Model is even more important when you have a large caseload. 4: The ASCA National Model gives you the tools to take things off your plate. 5: Take advantage of experts in your district. 6 ASCA RAMP: WHAT SHOULD MY BELIEFS STATEMENT LOOK LIKE? School Counseling Program All Students School Counselors The narrative includes a highly detailed summary of the process for developing the belief statements and a highly detailed explanation of how the beliefs influenced the development of the vision statement.

7 CCMS BELIEFS The School Counselors at Campbell County Middle School believe: All students have significance and worth. All students regardless of ability, age, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation shall have equal access to all services (academic, career, and personal/social) provided by the counseling program and the school. All students have strengths that can be applied to achieve their goals. All students learn best when positive relationships are present and fostered by all educational stakeholders. School counselors must be advocates for every student. School counselors are leaders and change agents in school culture and academic achievement.

8 CCMS BELIEFS (CONTINUED) School counselors develop positive relationships and recognize each student s special talents to help them achieve goals. The school counseling program collaborates with educational stakeholders to increase equity and access to opportunity. The school counseling program serves a central role in meeting students developmental needs through interventions in academic, career, and personal/social domains. The school counseling program focuses on student learning and utilizes a data-driven comprehensive school counseling program to meet the needs of every student. The comprehensive school counseling program is tailored to meet students developmental needs as identified through needs assessments, delivered using evidence-based programs, and evolved through data analysis of outcomes. The school counseling program utilizes the American School Counselor Association ethical standards.

The school counseling vision statement communicates what school counselors want to see in the future for the school community related to student achievement and other outcomes. It aligns with the school and district vision statements and is informed by the school counseling program s beliefs. Include: A list of the school counseling program s beliefs. A copy of the school and district vision statements (if available). The school counseling vision statement: 1. Describes a future world where the school counseling goals and strategies are being successfully achieved. 2. Outlines a rich and textual picture of what success looks and feels like. 3. Is bold and inspiring. 4. States the best possible student outcomes that are five to 15 years away. 5. Is believable and achievable.

11 ASCA RAMP SCORING RUBRIC FOR VISION 5 Exemplary: The vision statement creates a vision of learning for all students that fulfills all five criteria to the highest extent. The narrative includes a highly detailed summary of the process for developing the belief statements and a highly detailed explanation of how the beliefs influenced the development of the vision statement. The narrative explains why components were included or excluded. 4 Strong: The vision statement creates a vision of learning for all students clearly addressing all five criteria. The narrative provides a detailed explanation of how the beliefs influenced the vision statement, how it was developed and why certain rubric components were included or excluded. 3 Satisfactory: The vision statement creates a vision of learning for all students that includes all five criteria. The narrative provides an explanation of how the vision statement was developed and why certain rubric components were included or excluded. 2 Weak: The vision statement lacks focus or does not include all five criteria. The narrative lacks an explanation of how the vision statement was developed and why certain components were included or excluded. 1 Poor: The vision statement lacks focus and includes only one or two of the five criteria. The narrative provides little or no explanation for how the vision statement was developed and why certain components were included or excluded.

13 CCMS VISION The Vision of Campbell County Middle School s Counseling Program Campbell County Middle School s Counseling program will empower dreamers to achieve excellence in all facets of life. Campbell County Middle School s Counseling Program will realize success when: All students believe they can and will learn. All students can recognize and apply their strengths to identify and overcome barriers. All students promote an atmosphere of social justice and equity. All students can identify personal strengths and weaknesses, identify careers that match their interests, passions, and skills, identify learning styles that support their achievement, and identify short-term and long-term goals. All students leave middle school inspired to actively pursue learning opportunities and experiences in-and-out of the classroom to enhance their passion for learning. All students are involved in positive connections and mentorship relationships with adults, are able to recognize and seek help when needed, and are positive role models and mentors for others. All students use their skills as life-long learners to enhance society as local and global citizens

19 BUILDING A MISSION STATEMENT: THREE TIER APPROACH State Level Mission Statement: Kentucky Board of Education Mission Statement The Kentucky Department of Education's mission is to prepare all Kentucky students for next-generation learning, work and citizenship by engaging schools, districts, families and communities through excellent leadership, service and support. District Level Mission Statement: Campbell County Schools Mission Statement The mission of the Campbell County School District, in partnership with students, staff, parents, and community, is to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to ensure our students success in college, career, and life. School Level Mission Statement: CCMS Mission Statement CCMS stakeholders are committed to the success of all students. No exceptions. No excuses.

20 CCMS COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL COUNSELING MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Campbell County Middle School Counseling Program is to provide equal access for all students to a data-driven comprehensive school counseling program delivered by certified professional school counselors that meets the needs of every student. The comprehensive school counseling program collaborates with stakeholders to meet students developmental needs as identified through needs assessments, to deliver interventions using evidence-based programs, and evolves through data analysis of outcomes. As a result, all students will be able to identify personal strengths that can be applied to achieve their academic, career, and personal/social goals.
