1 REPLACEMENT STAFF OPPORTUNITIES In our Special Education programs, there are several positions which are assigned to work in our classrooms with students. The regular work day for these positions is 6 hours and 50 minutes per day. We will only consider qualified candidates who are willing to work with secondary school age students. CATEGORY TWO: INTENSIVE SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE NEEDS This category consists of three positions: Educational Assistant Intensive Support - Moderate to Severe Needs Special Needs Assistant Individual Student Support Assistant Intensive Support for Students with Moderate to Severe Needs Supply Rate: $15.48/hr - After 30 Days $25.18/hr (All rates effective September 1, 2011) Educational Assistant Intensive Support Moderate to Severe Needs Multiple Exceptionality, Behaviour, Autism, Physical Disability, Mild intellectual Disability (Primary/Junior) Intensive Support Programs The Educational Assistant Intensive Support - Moderate Needs assists Special Education Teacher(s) to provide additional staff support in Intensive Support (Moderate to Severe needs) special education classes where students with moderate to severe exceptional needs are present. These needs are in addition to or beyond academic needs and are demonstrated frequently and consistently. A priority is to support these students to develop self-advocacy skills to direct their own personal care and to foster independence. Under the supervision of the special education teacher (s), responsible for providing interventions and support to meet the moderate to severe safety, health, personal care needs of students with multiple exceptionalities; Under the supervision of the special education teacher(s) responsible for providing interventions to support an individual student with moderate to severe personal care and health needs; these needs may include lifting and transferring, movement and positioning, feeding, toileting, changing and diapering, and approved administration of medication/medical procedures, with appropriate training provided; Assist the special education teacher(s) in instructing and developing self-advocacy skills for students to direct their own personal care and to foster independence;

2 Assist the special education teachers(s) in addressing and meeting the physical safety needs of student(s), e.g. the implementation of student behavior plans BMS techniques, behaviour shaping, prompting strategies, proximity control, etc., for the purpose of ensuring effective and safe student learning; Assist the special education teacher(s) in the academic instruction, as well as the delivery of alternative curriculum for students with special needs; Assist the teacher(s) with the administration of appropriate assessment tools; Assist the teacher(s) in the integration of these exceptional students into the regular classroom programs within the school and community, as appropriate; Provide student and class support to facilitate integration (e.g. prompting) under the direction of the classroom teacher in the regular and special education classrooms; Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives on a daily basis; Monitor, supervise and assist students during non-instructional periods within a variety of procedures, behavior management, BMS training, ABA training, etc.) for the purpose of Communicate with school staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in the effective implementation of the IEP and for sharing information about students and their needs; Assist the teacher with students on field trips, swimming excursions, etc.; Accompany/supervise students off school site [e.g. field trips, TTC training, life skills training, experiential learning opportunities (secondary students), etc]; and Ability to support students who have physical/mobility/behaviour/health/personal care needs Proven ability to work as a team player; asset; Familiarity with the curriculum is an asset; Current First Aid, CPR, BMS, and ABA training/certification are assets.

3 Special Needs Assistant The Special Needs Assistant assists the Classroom and/or Special Education Teacher by providing additional staff support in regular and special education classrooms where students with moderate to severe special needs are present. Individual Student Support Assistant Intensive Support for Students with Moderate to Severe Needs The Individual Student Support Assistant provides additional individual staff support dedicated to a student who qualifies and is approved for the Ministry of Education ISA Special Incidence Portion funding (SIP). Students with SIP funding have high needs related to their disabilities and present a risk of injury due to a combination of behavioural, developmental, physical/health and personal care issues. The Individual Student Support Assistant ensures the safety of the student in the classroom. The Individual Student Support Assistant assists the Special Education Teacher(s) to provide additional individual student staff support in Moderate to Severe Needs Special Education settings where a student with moderate to severe exceptional needs is present. These needs are in addition to or beyond academic needs and are demonstrated frequently and consistently. Under the supervision of the special education teacher (s), responsible for providing interventions and support to meet the moderate to severe safety, health, and personal care needs of an exceptional student; Under the supervision of the special education teacher(s), responsible for providing interventions to support an individual student with moderate to severe daily personal care and health needs; these needs may include lifting and transferring, movement and positioning, feeding, toileting, changing and diapering, and approved administration of medication/medical procedures, with appropriate training provided; Assist the special education teacher(s) in developing self-advocacy skills for an individual student to direct his/her own personal care and to foster independence; Assist the special education teacher(s) with the administration of appropriate assessment tools; Under the supervision of the special education teacher(s), responsible for providing interventions to support academic progress in the academic instruction, as well as the delivery of alternative curriculum for students with special needs; Assist the teachers(s) in addressing and meeting the physical safety needs of a student, e.g. BMS techniques, behaviour shaping, prompting strategies, proximity control, etc. for the purpose of ensuring effective and safe student learning;
