Report of the chair Britta Wright - Missouri ranks 12 th in the nation per number of international students - Study abroad numbers are on the increase Some newspapers/media picked up the story IV. Report of the treasurer Joy Stevenson - The consortium is in excellent financial standing - 37 membership dues are paid. Few more pending. Joy is following up. - Current budget balance $30, NAFSA booth charges ($4,650 aisle booth, $6,xxx corner booth, plus furniture) - Materials for International Education Day pending. 2 V. Old business: Discuss Study Missouri goals for 2014: - How to measure the impact of Study Missouri Michael Johnson: Moberly uses the fact that MO moved up from 13 to 12 in the country. Liz Coleman: What should Liz s role be in the consortium? What is the audience for Social Media? Is Liz the only one who should be posting information online? Liz would like more direction. Britta Wright: Will discuss this with the Executive committee and come up with answers. Chad Stebbins: The website should be updated by Liz and Lainie Strange. Britta: Should we get feedback from students about the website design and info? Phil: Member colleges should have a Study Missouri button/link and logo on their websites. Michael: Add short videos of students talking about why they like studying in Missouri. The videos with most likes can win an award. Sarah: We should look at making Facebook more effective through specific advertising to international students (to drive students to the website so you can use Google analytics to view traffic stats, demographics, and assess the effectiveness). should be used for communication with members and the website for students. Britta: Tabs should be added for students, members, etc. on the website. Phil: Ask state representatives about impact after the Int l Education Day. Also for ask sponsors feedback about return on their investment. Use those facts for assessment and use them in marketing to increase sponsorships. Grant: Track the data on visitors to the NAFSA booth and reception, Int l Education Day, and other events. Liz: Collect, analyze, and use facts/data about the NAFSA conference. Britta: Track/analyze all data in one place. - Put more emphasis on education abroad Elizabeth Strong is a new committee member and will try to increase the participation at Intl Ed Day. - Recruit more sponsors Memberships and Finance Committee has been discussing new ideas. VI. New business:

3 Chris Sulincevski recommended a representative from Barcelona Study Abroad Experience to present at the February meeting. Chris was approached and met with the representative. She was interested to present to Study Missouri. The company could be a potential sponsor. They offer good study abroad programs for students. She will present at the beginning of the February meeting. Committee membership: - Need to increase memberships. - Web and Marketing Rachel Herman - Membership and Finance - International Initiatives - Domestic Initiatives - Public Policy & Legislation (Chris Sulincevski chair, Joy Stevenson joined, Jeff Crawford, and Meghan Sprung) - Education Abroad Elizabeth Strong VIII. International Education Day April 2 Britta: Info should be provided to the Domestic Initiatives committee to process since they are involved heavily with the organization. A. Photo contest date change Phil: Should submit testimonials about the submitted photos which can also be used on the website. Britta: o Photos can t be filtered, hashtagged, or altered. o Students currently abroad may apply. o A new generic address for submissions will be created. o Photos from international students must be taken in the US and while they are enrolled in a Missouri institution. o Flier will be sent to members to distribute on campuses. o Mid-February will be the submission deadline. o No more than two entries per student. o There were about 250 entries in o If video competition is included the prices/budget may have to change. Activities and schedule to be determined C. Handouts Agenda, map of capitol, and other handouts possible Domestic Initiatives will organize these details. IX. NAFSA Annual Conference, May 25-30, 2014 in San Diego A. Booth update Joy: Will know the location of the booth in December. B. Reception update Possible co-sponsoring with Webster University. Grant Chapman will check. The venue should close but offsite from the convention The day will probably be Wednesday or Thursday C. Two free registration with 40 hours of work Karla and Michael will be interested to work the booth. Transportation of materials and finances should be considered because of airlines limits. X. Committee reports A. Web and Marketing Britta for Rachel: Cancelled two meetings and will try to schedule something in January. Ordered backpacks, water bottles, backpacks, and still has notepads, t- shirts, backpacks, and water bottles from last year. Will create a badge for Facebook. B. Membership and Finance Phil: Met via phone couple times and a goal is to meet once per month. Talked about generating more sponsors. Three tiers of sponsors should be reconsidered to one level to simplify with different options to choose from. To avoid duplicating efforts should communicate with members to create a list of who is doing what. Should have a workday for contacting sponsors and selling the sponsorship by explaining the benefits. The sponsorship letter was redesigned by Bert. SMC letterhead should be created for the purposes of sending the letter. The new drafted letter will be sent to the members. C. International Initiatives Joy: Education USA has been a chief partner. Should meet with them at NAFSA again to come up with new ideas. Maybe marketing in international education publications should be considered. D. Domestic Initiatives

5 Britta for Valerie and Elisa: Will coordinate with Web and Marketing committee for the NAFSA Conference and Int l Education Day. Missouri Int l Educators meeting may be planned for summer Plan a conference call for January. E. Public Policy & Legislation Chris: Will attend Advocacy Day conference call this week. Will provide invitation info to members and will submit report to committee and members. F. Education Abroad Elizabeth: Will provide report next meeting. Chris: Xi an International University, China, has an agreement with College of Lake County and the Illinois Consortium for a very reasonable semester abroad which is available to STLCC and other Missouri colleges/universities. There is also an opportunity for faculty to teach for a semester or a year. Will share detailed info once confirmed. Phil: Attended Lessons From Abroad, UM Reentry Conference. Preparing students for return from studying abroad. Feedback from University of Central Missouri students was very positive. II. Future meeting dates: A. Feb. 3, 2014 B.
