2 The spirit of Per Uddén lives on in Permobil. Per Uddén was in many respects an unusual person. Driven by his pure inextinguishable curiosity and desire to turn ideas into real solutions, he was constantly trying out new ideas. Permobil is without doubt his best known invention. Per Uddén and his wife Ann-Britt had nine children, some of whom also worked for Permobil. The memory of this visionary, with his totally unique style and view of life, inevitably brings a smile to the faces of family members, staff and Permobil users all round the world.

3 Life is a mystery. It's simple but true. We humans are still adrift, ignorant of the reasons and the origin of our existence. Of course there are all kinds of theories, from scientific to religious, but the riddle of life is still unsolved. Yet we do now know one thing with certainty, and that is that life itself is the greatest gift. And every human has a right to a full, valuable and richly varied life. Put in black and white it seems obvious, but in real life, as we all know, it is far from always the case. Far too many people never get the opportunities that they should have. For anyone who is handicapped, in whatever way, the problem is especially clear. Not least because daily tasks are hardly ever easy. On an ordinary day there are all kinds of trivialities that happen time and again which most of us regard as simple. Showering, collecting the post, taking the dog out, letting the neighbour in, making coffee or making the bed. But if for example your legs do not work, it suddenly isn't as simple. And this insight is essential. For us at Permobil this is our guideline. It was and is our most important task to solve daily problems for people with handicaps. Every electric wheelchair that we make has to provide a solution to the specific needs of a unique individual. We never forget that. The many electric wheelchairs that we make are only a drop in the ocean. But every chair meets the needs of an individual, and he or she hereby gains a chance to lead life in a better and simpler way. Not that wheels can ever replace someone's legs, but a smart, individually-adapted wheelchair can solve problems which are otherwise almost insurmountable. Being able to contribute to something as important as this is extraordinarily inspiring. We are proud of what we do, but we are not yet satisfied. And we will never be. The unique needs of people with handicaps mean that we are constantly trying to find new and better solutions. Just a few years ago who would have thought that you could control a wheelchair with your mouth? Over the years we have learned what is important and what isn't. We normally have the necessary practical skills in house. At the same time we know that we cannot work miracles. Because as we said, no matter how good a wheelchair may be, it still cannot replace someone's legs or arms. Yet a good chair can ensure that life and daily activities go smoothly. Maybe life is a mystery, but you still have to take care of it.

6 Our History Our Vision About 40 years ago Permobil was born in Timrå, Sweden, in a basement workshop owned by the inventor, entrepreneur and doctor, Per Uddén. Per Uddén was in many regards an unusual person. He was driven by an irresistible desire to discover new solutions for the questions which confronted him in his work as a doctor. Dr. Uddén had many ideas for improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. He believed that everyone had the right to a full life, to the extent of their potential. The electric wheelchair was an idea that in the mid-1960s led to an initial prototype. This electric wheelchair had unique technical solutions for its time, such as powered seat tilt, fold-away armrests and leg rests, and front wheel drive. Per Uddén was a true pioneer and we are proud to follow in his footsteps and that the company bears his name Permobil. But once again, with the introduction of the Corpus 3G, Permobil shows its determination to strive for perfection. Permobil's Corpus 3G has been developed in collaboration with the original world-renowned designer of the Corpus, the Swedish ergonomics expert Bengt Engström. The design makes use of the blueprint of Engström's concept of interactive counterpressure. 17 UNIQUE CENTRE WHEEL DRIVE About 30 years ago Permobil was the first to introduce the centre wheel drive to the market. Continuing our rich tradition of new ideas, we are now extending our range of products with the M400. Developed by the senior designers at Permobil, Mehdi Mirzaie and Bo Engman, the M400 features the new Climbing and Traction Link system. The M400 has a compact format, a small turning radius of 510 mm, and is fitted with PG 120 A R-net electronics. There are two speed packages available: 10 km/hr as standard and 12 km/hr as an option.
