3 Preview Faced with extreme business challenges of today s market, enterprises must still find a way to continuously increase their sales revenue and at the same time reduce their costs. By adopting the new IP-PBX technology and Hosted IP services, enterprises enhance their business communication by combining voice and data infrastructure and take advantage of cost saving by implementing voice over IP (VoIP). Background The IP-PBX business telephone system provides an extensive range of system features, suited for today s market. Using open-architecture software that runs on a network server, IP-PBX enables your broadband network to become the foundation of a converged, integrated voice, data and video solution (VoIP). The IP-PBX handles internal calls, connects you to the worldwide phone network and lets you set up and manage your users and resources. Hosted IP service (IP Centrex) builds on the traditional benefits of Centrex by combining them with the benefits of IP telephony, for example increased utilization of access capacity. In IP Centrex, a single broadband access facility is used to carry the packetized voice streams for many simultaneous calls. When calls are not active, more bandwidth is available for high-speed data sessions over the LAN. Handset Testing Objectives The IP-PBX and IP Centrex package include specific sets of supported IP-phones models; the IP system quality especially, the end-to-end voice quality is based on the IP phones quality, which requires measuring voice quality from the handset of the IP-phone when performing any of the following: Version release and regression testing. Installation and troubleshooting. New phone integration. In many VoIP systems, long calls have become a very important issue for the following reasons: Voice quality was not stable and deteriorated during the call. Unexpected disconnections still occurred. Quality with RADCOM s QPro? 1

4 IP-PBX and Hosted IP services replace a mature technology, the traditional PBX. This requires the following: Acceptable voice quality (related to the traditional PBX). Reliability (without unexpected disconnections). Using the QPro RADCOM s QPro application now supports the IP-PBX and Hosted IP services through the IP handset phone. Using the QPro, you can measure end-to-end quality directly form your IP phone. By using the QPro s Expert mode you can initiate a call from one QPro to another via the same IP-PBX system and generate statistics for quality of call, voice quality and delays over variable long call durations. When using the Expert mode and handset capabilities, the QPro provides the following measurements: Voice quality End-to-end voice delay Echo Voice distortion Voice clipping measurement DTMF integrity Quality with RADCOM s QPro? 2

5 QPro Capabilities The QPro s handset testing enables measuring voice quality over IP-phones or any other multi-technology phones by replacing the phone handset (RJ-14 connection). A single QPro unit can connect up to 24 handsets and measure the voice quality of the IP phones/multi-technology phones simultaneously. The QPro measures the voice quality of IP-phones/Multi-technology phones for long durations. Note: The QPro Handset requires a special adapter and is based on the QPro Analog and QPro Expert. Quality with RADCOM s QPro? 3

6 Summary Service providers can benefit from the Hosted IP services and vendors from IP PBX, while still meeting their need to ensure basic functionalities such as voice quality. Supporting this technology, the QPro enables measuring end-to-end voice quality directly from your IP phone, saving you both time and money. Most competitors measure one handset per unit, while the QPro enables measuring 24 handsets per unit. This capability serves as a great advantage to vendors.
