The teachers and staff at Grass Lake are thankful and appreciative for the wonderful Teacher/Staff Appreciation treats and gifts provided by the PTA last week. Our amazing parent volunteers organized a wide assortment of foods and gifts! Large tables were packed with delicious food and snacks throughout the week. It was indeed a week of celebrations not just for teachers, but for everyone at Grass Lake! Together we all make a difference for the children of our community! From all the staff, we would like to thank our wonderful PTA for their continued dedication to Grass Lake and our children. Thank you Grass Lake PTA for supporting the staff and the children at Grass Lake in order for us to BE OUR BEST! 2 Grass Lake ASB is continuing our school wide Pet Food Drive through tomorrow, Friday, May 17th! Please bring any bag of dry dog and/or cat food (no wet food or other items) to donate to the Humane Society in Bellevue. This will be a great end of the year way to give back! There are many animals in need of food in our area where families may not be able to afford pet food. We are so excited for this event, and to present the items to the Humane Society! Grades 4, 5 & 6 Round 1 Week of May 20 Rounds 2 and 3 Week of May 28 Final Round Friday, June 7 (1 team from Grass Lake) at Grass Lake Elementary School Fines If your student has any outstanding fines at Grass Lake, he/she will not be able to attend Field Day on June 19, Outstanding fines include: library materials, text books, classroom fines and lunch money accounts. Parents of 5th grade students: There are 2 vaccine requirements before current 5 th graders begin the school year! 1. Entering 6th graders must have the varicella vaccine, or have had chickenpox. 2. Students entering 6th grade or 11 years or older must also have the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) vaccine. Please take your child to your health care provider to get these immunizations prior to the start of the 2013/2014 school year. Please bring proof of the immunizations to the school office. 3 Safe Student Drop off and Pick Up: Parent drivers, please remember to drop off or pick up your Grass Lake Student at the school campus. It is an important safety concern that our students remain on campus until their ride arrives here, rather than waiting in nearby neighborhoods and cul de sacs without adult staff supervision! Grass Lake staff members are on duty each morning and afternoon on campus to supervise students. As a courtesy to our Grass Lake neighbors, please do not drop off or pick up your children in our surrounding neighborhoods. This will avoid congestion on our neighboring streets, and avoid blocking driveways or mailboxes. Thank you. The Grass Lake Gators performed well, earning a 2 nd place finish in the Junior Olympics on May 11th! Other notes: Luckyboy Russell had a dominant performance in the Long Jump, 600, and anchored the Boys Relay Team earning him the MVP for Male Athletes at the Junior Olympics! Haley Anderson and Aaron Jensen respectively won the Most Inspirational Award! Grass Lake Mission Do whatever it takes to successfully prepare all students for their future. 4 PTA Meeting tonight! 6:30 8:00 p.m. in the Grass Lake Library. Childcare will be provided with a movie night for kids! Voting for: Executive Board Elections and Budget Approval. Our Principal, Harjeet Sandhu-Fuller, will speak about the school year. State Representative Mark Hargrove will speak on School Safety. All members are strongly encouraged to attend! Kentlake Falcons Basketball Youth Camp! June and/or July :00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Coaches from this year s camp bring a combined 35 years of competitive basketball knowledge and are former college athletes. Registration forms are in the Grass Lake Office. What to expect? Athletes will join in drills including: Shooting technique Lay ups Defense Teamwork Dribbling Ball-handling Free throws Post moves This camp is for students entering grades 2 9. Open to all boys and girls. Each camper will receive a skills assessment and proper training for improvement. Campers will be placed in competition to see how the practices drills can be executed in real situations. Registration forms are in the Grass Lake Office! Moving out of the Grass Lake Boundaries? 5 The Grass Lake Math Club performed excellently in the Math Olympiad on Saturday, May 4th! All three teams won awards in at least 1 of the 2 sessions! Ribbon winners from session 2 include: Aspen Valentine Nicholas McClure Colby Ledbetter Ashleigh Panton Rachel Vu Leizzlyn Nicolas Yusef Alqasim Wyatt Valentine Special congratulations go to Grass Lake s top scoring team, who won both a ribbon in session 1 and a medal in session 2: Connor White Mathew Thiel Hayyan Yun Ryan Lee The last day of school is Wednesday, June 19, Breakfasts will be served. Lunches will NOT be served. Dismissal time: 12:28 p.m. Report cards will be sent home with all students on the last day of school. The questions were very difficult.
