12 Leif Thorson Project Manager of Leif Thorson is an Industrial Engineer at the Technical University of Catalonia, with a postgraduate in Transit and Road Safety Management. In September 2003 he joined as Project Manager. He had previously substantiated his career in the field of transport as director of his own consultancy for 12 years and at the Catalan Transit Service (SCT) of the Department of Internal Affairs in the Generalitat of Catalonia, as head of European projects developing the following programmes and projects: implementation of telematic systems in the Mediterranean area, (SERTI and MIP ), 2006), intelligent speed management (MASTER and PROSPER), road video surveillance (VERA), programme for the evaluation of road safety for European Roads (EuroRAP( EuroRAP). In assuming the responsibilities of transit and road safety as a head of technological matters, he was in charge of the development of computerised transit information systems, the system of penalisation,, the system for accidents in transit, the new implementation of the control centre, the mobility portal, the WAP W service, information systems (Datawarehouse), SIG (Geographic Information System), telecommunications and management consultancy. 13 Examples of solutions of transport problems through ITS 13 SPEED LIMITATION AND VARIABLE SPEED LIMITS AT BARCELONA MAIN ACCESSES Decree 152/2007. Action Plan to improve the quality of air at cities declared zones of special protection of atmospheric environment. It proposes 73 measures. In the transport field: REDUCTION OF SPEED LIMITS IN MOTORWAYS & REDUCTION OF ACTUAL SPEEDS Deaths due to air quality

17 Examples of solutions of transport problems through ITS 17 META META - Spanish road pricing model This project responds to the necessity of analyzing the viability of a Spanish system of road pricing in the interurban road network. Its objectives include: analysis of different road pricing schemes for interurban roads calculation of the road transportation costs for passenger and freight transportation systems determination of the externalities in road transportation for cars, buses and trucks distinction between marginal and average costs design of territorial equity criteria, through pricing policies, in order not to introduce regional imbalances due to its different infrastructure provision and peripheral rank Taking into account these objectives, the Spanish road pricing model will be established.
