3 Fraud Detection System Sportradar s Fraud Detection System (FDS) is a unique service that identifies betting-related manipulation in sport. This is possible due to the FDS s sophisticated algorithms and constantly maintained database of both odds and personal fraud scores, which together are interpreted for the purpose of match-fixing detection. Sportradar provides the FDS to a host of major organisations in various sports including football, rugby, cricket, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, snooker and futsal. We also enjoy close working relationships with law enforcement agencies and police across Europe and strive not only to detect corruption, but also to help prevent it from occurring in the future. By tracking odds changes and liquidity across such a wide range of markets, the FDS is in an unrivalled position to detect irregular betting patterns in real-time, both pre-match and live (in-play). With thorough specialist knowledge of both sport (including team news, local rumours, match action) and related betting markets, the FDS team is quickly able to reach a conclusion regarding the integrity of any match. In each case where fraudulent activity is suspected, a comprehensive report is compiled within 72 hours, providing an excellent platform for any potential criminal investigations into match-fixing. 4 Comprehensive Betting Database 450+ Betting Operators 5 Billion+ Datasets The odds movements at over 450 independent bookmakers and state lotteries are tracked in real time in order to detect any fraudulent betting patterns. All key betting markets are monitored to ensure that manipulation is detected. The real-time tracking of odds from bookmakers across the world means that Sportradar processes over 5 billion datasets per day. All odds changes in the key betting markets from FDS monitored bookmakers are tracked. On occasion, match-fixers operate in specialist markets which would ordinarily go undetected. However, since a range of markets from Halftime/ Full-time to First Team to Score are tracked, even the most subtle manipulation can be identified. Worldwide Betting Coverage The worldwide betting markets offered by retail and online bookmakers, betting exchanges, spread betting firms and state lotteries all receive extensive coverage. Match-fixing, though an international business is often localised. The FDS has observed highly suspicious betting patterns in one area of the market, with other sections ignored by the match-fixers. This is due to match-fixers either seeking to avoid detection or betting conveniently. Since the FDS tracks bookmakers, both large and small, Asian and European, public and private, regulated and unregulated, no odds movement is missed. Statistics Sportradar compiles its own comprehensive in-house statistics for a range of sports, including player, team, head-to-head, league and overall sports statistics. These statistics allow us to understand odds movements and so conclude whether they are legitimate. However, when betting patterns defy recognised and legitimate explanations, it is then that the match and odds movements begin to appear suspicious. Therefore, thorough statistical analysis serves as a basis for fraud detection and is used alongside the betting patterns, team news, fraud history and private information sources to reach the correct conclusion. 5 Scientific Alerting System Pre-Match Alerts Live Alerts The FDS operates on 15 detailed pre-match alerts which are based on the odds movements observed at bookmakers. An alert is generated in the FDS when odds at a bookmaker change by greater than predefined parameters, which can be adjusted and tailored to the specific demands of the different sports, leagues and competitions worldwide. As explained, match-fixing occurs in different forms and the FDS alerts are designed accordingly: to encompass all aspects of the different betting markets available. These alerts cover the world-wide betting market in such a way that match-fixing will present itself in some way to the FDS, whether it is the match result, total number of goals or even the correct score which has been manipulated. Sportradar has created a sophisticated mathematical model which allows for the monitoring of live betting on offer during an event. There are seven live alerts, which instantly identify irregular betting in the marketplace. The mathematical model uses calculated odds, which run alongside bookmakers odds, in order to highlight whether odds in a specific minute or time period are out of line and, therefore, potentially suspicious. Sportradar s calculated odds have served as an invaluable tool in the detection of manipulated matches. The deviations between actual bookmaker odds and our calculated odds can highlight that individuals had prior knowledge of certain results, and in some cases can even point towards the involvement of the match officials. 6 Expertise and Experience 35+ Senior Trading Analysts 35 full-time senior trading analysts are employed to run the FDS. These analysts have all the necessary skills and knowledge to identify suspicious patterns and all have direct experience of working in different areas of the betting industry: Asian bookmakers, European bookmakers (retail and online), betting exchanges, spread betting and state lotteries. Professional Experience This amalgamation of specialist knowledge allows for precise evaluation of all betting patterns from the various bookmakers monitored by the FDS, in addition to any privately sourced information. The FDS also utilises information from multi-lingual local experts so that intelligence gathered can be communicated as needed to certain customers. This toolbox of preventative solutions offers sports organisations and law enforcement agencies all the support and information they need to tackle match-fixing. This will include analysis on the level of bookmaker coverage (Asian bookmakers, betting exchanges, etc.), the core and special bets offered, estimates on betting turnover and other relevant factors that could present a risk to your sport. 10 Premium Services Anti-Manipulation Code (AMC) Before attempting to combat match-fixing within a sport, it is imperative that organisations have effective rules in place in order to deter and punish match-fixers. These rules must be realistic, concise and most importantly enforceable. Sportradar s team, working in conjunction with the German Sports University of Cologne, has developed a thorough Anti-Manipulation Code (AMC). Working together, Sportradar and a rights holder can ensure that this code tailored accordingly is adopted within the framework of its rules and forms part of the licensing agreement with each participant operating within the rights holder s jurisdiction. Sportradar s team has vast experience in creating, reviewing and implementing rules and codes-of-conduct within the sporting environment. Consequently, the revamped regulatory framework is clear and robust and can work effectively alongside any relevant criminal legislation. Analysis of Suspicious Matches For organisations not already using the Fraud Detection System (FDS), Sportradar can provide the sports organisations and state authorities with ad hoc comprehensive reports exploring all aspects of the betting to determine the likelihood of a certain match being manipulated.
