Types of Degrees offered at ivy tech community college At Ivy Tech, you can earn a variety of two-year degrees as well as one-year technical certificates. Before you enroll, check with your local campus to see what types of degrees or certificate programs are available in your area of study. An admissions counselor can help you choose an option that matches your career aspirations. The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree prepares students for a career. The Associate of Arts (AA) Degree prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university. The curriculum is almost entirely made up of general education and liberal arts courses. The Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) Degree prepares students for transfer to a related program at a four-year school or a career in the fine arts. Two kinds of Associate of Science (AS) Degree programs are available: programs for technical/professional fields and for liberal arts. AS programs in technical and professional areas prepare students to start their career or to transfer to four-year institutions. AS liberal arts programs prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges or universities. The Certificate can be completed in fewer credit hours than other types of academic programs. Certificate programs prepare students to sit for a certification exam in a short amount of time, and are offered in fields most likely to lead to employment or promotion. The Technical Certificate (TC) is a one-year program that provides education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations. 4 Automotive Technology Auto Service Ivy Tech s Auto Service concentration combines classroom work with hands-on lab exercises to provide you with state-of-the-art training across all makes and models. Students also have the option of completing an internship with a participating service facility to get even more experience. You ll graduate prepared to work as a service technician or consultant, in sales and parts, or in management, technical support, customer relations, or manufacturing. Commercial Air Carrier Technician Private Aircraft Maintenance Technician Degree: Associate of Applied Science Cabinetry Ivy Tech s Cabinetry concentration emphasizes woodworking, design and installation. You ll learn how to build and install cabinetry and assist clients in selecting and designing residential and commercial cabinetry. Building Construction Management Ivy Tech s Building Construction Management program will prepare you for work in residential, commercial and industrial construction and construction consulting. Our classes help you understand materials science, concrete and soil technology, statics and strength of materials science, surveying, and building fabrication. Estimator Field Engineer Science, Associate of science Electrical Obtain the knowledge and skills you need to enjoy a career as an electrical technician, installer or service provider. The focus of this program is troubleshooting and maintenance in residential and light commercial installation, including wiring, motor controls, and problem solving. I had various jobs while working my way through Ivy Tech, and then the Career Services office helped me secure a position. Now I oversee CAD operators who create and modify designs for aircraft bearings, including military helicopters and Boeing planes.
