1 PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR THE PROJECT &

2 FAKTA Peace Monuments of War Material är ett internationellt projekt som visar hur konsten kan bidra till en hållbar fred och samhällsutveckling, samt seminariet Art as an Arrow to Sustainable Economic Growth. Projektet genomförs i tre steg. Konstutställning med konstnärernas idéskisser. Utställningen kommer att visas i Peking, vernissage i november 2011 sedan i Stockholm i jan/febr och slutligen i Arboga i april Ett internationellt skulpturssymposium genomförs i Arboga i juli och augusti 2012 då femton internationellt verksamma konstnärer möts för att tillsammans skapa fredsmonument av krigsmateriel. Symposiet kommer att vara öppet för besök från allmänhet, föreningar och företag med guidningar, föreläsningar mm. En permanent skulpturpark skapas i regionen Syfte är att etablera ett långsiktigt intressant besöksmål för privatpersoner grupper och konferenser. The project is implemented in three stages. Art exhibition with the artists sketch. The exhibition will be shown in Beijing, opening in November 2011 and then in Stockholm in jan/febr and then in Arboga in april An International sculpture symposium will be held in Arboga in July and August 2012 where fifteen internationally active artists meet to create peace monuments military equipment. During this period the symposium will be open for visits from the public, associations and companies with tours, lectures and more. A permanent sculpture park is created in the region The purpose is to establish a long term interesting place to visit for individuals groups and conferences. Projektet är planerat att genomföras under 2011 och Inledningen blir en konstutställning i form av de idéskisser som konstnärerna tagit fram över sina tänkbara skulpturer. Konstutställningen uppförs i Peking under senhösten 2011, i Stockholm vintern 2012 samt i Arboga våren Därefter genomförs ett publikt skulptursymposium i perioden juli - aug 2012 då alla internationellt verksamma konstnärer samlas att skapa fredsmonumenten i form av skulpturer i en stor ateljé i en nedlagd industrilokal i Arboga. Planen är att fredsmonumenten sedan bildar en permanent skulpturpark i en vacker kulturmiljö.. Initiativtagare är konstnären Richard Brixel som skapat flera uppmärksammade skulpturer bland annat i Kina. Genom hans internationella kontaktnät har konstnärer från hela världen bjudits in. Konstnärerna finns representerade i denna skrift. Det är den föreningen Mekens Vänner i Arboga som äger och driver detta projekt, under ledning av projektledaren Håkan Sterner. Mekens Vänner arbetar för att utveckla konst och kulturlivet i regionen. En projektgrupp med representanter för Näringsliv, kommun, föreningar och konstnärer arbetar målmedvetet för att förverkliga projektets alla tre faser. Såväl Länsstyrelsen, Landstinget i Västmanlands län och Leader Västmanland har redan beviljat två anslag till projektet inom ramen för att utveckla konst och kulturlivet i samverkan med näringslivet. Ett seminarium kommer att anordnas under skulptursymposiet med namnet: Art as an Arrow to Sustainable Economic Growth. Genom bildandet av en skulpturpark kommer projektet att kunna leva länge och skulptursymposiet kommer att medföra en stor medial uppmärksamhet. Välkommen att delta i detta helt unika projekt. PEACE MONUMENTS OF WAR MATERIAL is an international sculpture symposium with a view to creating peace monuments of scrapped military equipment. The project is planned to be implemented during 2011 and The start will be an art exhibition in the form of the sketches which the artists have produced over their potential sculptures. The art exhibition is shown in Beijing in late autumn 2011, in Stockholm winter 2012 and in Arboga in spring Thereafter a public sculpture symposium in the period July - August 2012 is held, when all internationally active artists gather to create peace monuments in the form of sculptures in a large studio in a disused industrial building in Arboga. The plan is that the peace monuments then form a permanent sculpture park in a beautiful cultural environment. The initiator of the project is artist Richard Brixel who created several acclaimed sculptures, for example, in China. Through his international contacts artists from around the world were invited. The artists are represented in this publication. It is the association Mekens Vänner in Arboga, which owns and operates this project, with project leader Håkan Sterner. Mekens Vänner are working to develop arts and cultural life in the region. A project team with representatives from the business community, municipality, associations and artists are dedicated to realize the project s three phases. The County Board, the County Council of Västmanland and Leader Västmanland has already awarded two grants for the project within the framework of the development of arts and culture in collaboration with industry. A seminar will be organized in sculpture symposium entitled: Art as an Arrow to Sustainable Economic Growth. Through the creation of a sculpture park, the project will be able to live longer and the sculpture symposium will bring a great deal of media attention. 5 INTERNATIONALLY ACTIVE SCULPTOR AND ALSO INITIATOR AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE PROJECT RICHARD BRIXEL The softness of the clay, it s sensual malleability and physical resistance are in my blood. Sculpting small or large pieces of clay gives me the same sensual tactile pleasure. But working with clay on large sculptures offers further challenges, most important of which is to get the clay to stay where I want it to stay, until the molds completely cover the sculpture. Finally after many steps the sculpture emerges, metamorphosed into its final bronze form. In my art, I attempt to express strong feelings, the metamorphosis of life, travels in time and space, whether real or esoteric. I would like to find out who we are, and through my art give courage and strength to my fellow humans. Standing in the studio, my awareness of the sculpture s dimensions, the Milky Way, parallel universes, multiverse, God, collective subconsciousness or what ever word we choose to name miracles, wonders, these vaults beyond vaults. Everything streams through me and I become a tool, only a tool. In museum exhibitions I enjoy meeting interested art lovers. However, my greatest pleasure is placing art in public places and in the largest and finest galleries where the creations of nature and mankind meet. 15 DONG SHUBING IS AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND VICE DEAN OF THE SCULPTURE DE- PARTMENT AT THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS, TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY. He received his master s degree from the Department of Sculpture, Central Academy of Fine Arts in June 2007 and bachelor s degree from the Decorative Arts Department of the Central Academy of Arts and Design in July Dong is a member of the Chinese Sculpture Society, member of the Professional Committee of Sculpture at China Arts and Crafts Society and certified sculptor of the National Urban Sculpture Construction Steering Committee.
