1 National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), a body with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India, is actively engaged in the development of qualified human resources in the areas of IT; Electronics; Communication technologies; Hardware; Cyber Law; Cyber Security; IPR; GIS; Cloud Computing; ESDM; e-governance and related verticals. NIELIT offers courses both in the Formal as well as the Non Formal sector of education and is also one of the National Examination body which accredits institutes / organizations for the conduct of courses in IT in the Non Formal sector. NIELIT has been mandated to undertake various projects under Capacity Building in ICT with the objective of creating human resources at various levels including development of employment and self-employment linked quality and cost effective training programmes, besides conducting IT Literacy programmes for the masses, especially targeted towards the rural/ underdeveloped areas in the country. NIELIT is also the preferred agency for many State Governments for rolling out IT Literacy programmes for its employees and the masses. The wide repertoire of NIELIT Courses includes: (a) Courses in the Formal Sector offered by the NIELIT Centres in association with State Universities/Technical Board such as M.Tech, B.Tech, MCA, BCA programmes; (b) Courses in the Non Formal Sector in IT, Hardware, Bio-informatics etc., under four levels, namely O (Foundation) aligned with Level 5 of NVEQF; A (Advance Diploma) aligned with Level 7 of NVEQF; B (MCA equivalent); and C (M.Tech equivalent), O/A/B Level courses are recognized by MHRD for the purpose of employment; Short Term Courses in niche areas; more than 65 courses in IT, Hardware & Electronics and IT Literacy Programmes for the proliferation of Digital Literacy in the country; besides specialized programmes in e-governance targeted towards empowering the employees of the State Governments. So far, NIELIT has trained more than candidates through a large network of Centres/ Extension Centres/ Accredited Centres/ Facilitation Centres across India. Over these years, NIELIT has established itself as a premier organization having pan-india presence through a network of 30 own Centres/ Extension centres located at Agartala, Aizawl, Ajmer, Aurangabad, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gangtok, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Srinagar, Shillong, Patna, Tezpur, Jorhat, Silchar, Kokrajhar, Shimla, Jammu, Leh, Lunglei, Churachandpur, Senapati, Chuchuyimlang, Lucknow with its Head quarters at New Delhi. It is also well networked throughout and a network of about 850+ accredited training institutions, besides a network of about facilitation centres engaged in the proliferation and training of NIELIT s immensely popular IT Literacy Programmes, namely, Course on Computer Concepts (CCC) and Basic Computer Course (BCC), which has been recognized by various State Governments/ Departments for appointments/ promotions etc. NIELIT has put in place a holistic system for conduct of Online examinations throughout India. The Online examinations are supported by Online services that includes online registrations by students and online submission of examination applications which are also integrated with payment gateway for Online payments, and automatic SMS and automatic services. With a view to encourage Digital Literacy, many State Governments and Government Departments have also recognized the NIELIT CCC programme as a mandatory course for recruitment and promotion for its employees.
