3 GET TO KNOW RELAY SOUTH DAKOTA Here is some of the equipment available to you with the TED PROGRAM. Relay South Dakota makes it possible for deaf, hard-of-hearing or speech disabled people to communicate over the phone. TTY CapTel Service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and calls are confidential. There are no restrictions on the length or number of Relay calls you make. The best part is that if you qualify, we ll provide a FREE phone based on what s best for your unique situation. DIAL and get talking VCO/HCO Amplified To make a Relay call, dialing 711 connects you with a trained CA (Communication Assistant), who can facilitate your call depending on your needs. The only instruction you need to know is, GA or Go Ahead, which indicates it s the other caller s turn to speak. ipad / iphone Cordless & Corded Special equipment can be ordered based on individual needs
4 GETTING YOUR FREE PHONE IS EASY AS Need a FREE phone? ASK TED TED is the Telecommunication Equipment Distribution program. STEP 3 SETUP We ll deliver and install your new phone, then train you how to use it. When we re done, you ll be able to communicate easily and effectively right away! Are you eligible for a FREE Phone? A TED Specialist will perform a quick evaluation to find out the best equipment for you. Do you have existing phone service in your home? * Income guidelines may apply to some devices offered through the program
5 Type of Relay Call VRS (Video Relay Service) TTY (Text Telephone) HCO (Hearing Carry Over) KEY: STS (Speech to Speech) Hearing Loss Deaf Deaf-Blind Speech Disabled Captioned Phone Service Hearing and Physically Impaired Low Vision and Hearing Loss Amplified (Traditional Phone Service) FIND YOUR PERFECT MATCH Take our Match Me quiz at relaysd.com and find out which phone is best for you. Equipment What is it? Internet-based equipment that allows a caller to communicate via video conferencing. A CA speaks and signs between the two parties. The user s typed message is voiced to the hearing caller through a CA. The CA relays the hearing person s spoken words by typing them back to the TTY user. The speech-disabled person listens to the standard telephone user and types his/her conversation for the Relay Operator to read back to the other party. A specially trained Relay Operator repeats the words of the person with a speech disability or synthesizer output to the other party. A telephone that uses a text screen to display captions of what the other party is saying. A telephone that has adjustable volume levels to help the user hear what the other party is saying. Who's it for?
