2 The University System of Georgia uses the Oracle Database to run PeopleSoft and SCT Banner applications for 33 public universities and colleges in Georgia. Vanderbilt University uses the Oracle Database Real Application Clusters option and a cluster of low-cost Linux servers to provide high-availability and scalability for their data warehouse. The University of Cincinnati extended Blackboard to more users, higher availability, and better response time with the Oracle Database and the Real Application Clusters option. Oracle Real Application Clusters option is the only the database cluster technology that is certified with off-the-shelf applications like PeopleSoft and SAP. The Association of Commonwealth Universities migrated from SQL Server to Oracle Database Standard Edition using Oracle s free Migration Workbench utility. McGill University uses the Oracle Database s Virtual Private Database feature to secure the personal information for 160,000 people in a Development and Alumni Relations application. Virginia Tech uses the Oracle Database and the Partitioning Option to manage their data warehouse faster and easier. Enterprise Manager Database Control The built-in Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control console provides a web-based interface that shows at a glance the status of your database and cluster environment, and allows database administration actions from any browser connected to your system. HTML DB HTML DB is a declarative development environment for non-programmers to create database-centric web applications. Using only a web browser, entry-level developers and power users can quickly assemble sophisticated and fast web applications that leverage all the Oracle Database s capabilities. Also part of Standard Edition. Flashback Query and Flashback Versions Query These unique features allow the user to query data at a point-in-time in the past, or to view past changes to the data, in order to reconstruct lost data that may have been deleted or changed by accident. Also part of Standard Edition. Flashback Drop This feature provides a safety net when dropping objects as you can very quickly and easily undrop a table and its dependent objects. Also part of Standard Edition. Flashback Table This lets you quickly and easily recover a table or a set of tables to a point in time in the past without restoring a full backup of the database.

4 Flashback Transaction Query This lets you examine changes to the database at the transaction level. As a result, you can quickly and easily diagnose problems, perform analysis, and audit transactions. Flashback Database This lets you quickly bring your database to a prior point in time by undoing all the changes that have taken place since that time. This operation is fast, because you do not need to restore the backups. This in turn results in much less downtime following widespread data errors or human mistakes. Automatic Storage Management Automatic Storage Management is a software storage management layer that automates and simplifies the optimal layout and performance of all Oracle database-managed disk storage. Database files are automatically distributed across all available disks, and database storage is rebalanced whenever the storage configuration changes. This feature also provides redundancy through the mirroring of database files. Also part of Standard Edition. Server Managed Backup and Recovery Recovery Manager (RMAN) is Oracle s utility to manage the backup, and more importantly the recovery, of the database. Since RMAN is tightly integrated with the Oracle kernel, it provides the insight and wisdom to efficiently backup and recover your Oracle databases. This tight integration allows RMAN to provide online backups, incremental backups, backup compression, predefined backup strategies, and more. Also part of Standard Edition. Data Guard Data Guard provides a completely integrated disaster recovery solution through automatically maintaining one or more standby databases by keeping them transactionally consistent with the primary database. Online Schema Reorganization This feature enhances availability and manageability by allowing end-users full read-write access to the database during a data reorganization operation. Redefinition can include adding/dropping/renaming columns, adding partitioning support, modifying storage parameters, moving tables, switching to an index-organized table, creating/coalescing/rebuilding indexes and more. Summary Management (Materialized Views and Query Rewrite) Summary management consists of mechanisms to optimize the performance of querying large datasets. This allows the Oracle Database to pre-join and pre-compute query results and transparently rewrite end-user SQL to use the summary tables (known as materialized views). Virtual Private Database This feature provides the ability implement security policies to tightly control data access at a row or column level to restrict users from data they do not need to access. Migration Workbench The Oracle Migration Workbench is a graphical tool that simplifies the process of migrating third-party database systems to Oracle. The tool migrates the entire database schema, including stored procedures if feasible, in an integrated environment. Also part of Standard Edition. InterMedia and Text These features provide advanced capabilities to manage multimedia content for applications that utilize image, audio, video, and textual data. Also part of Standard Edition. Locator This enables spatial/geographic data storage, indexing, and operations to support a variety of location-based services and 3rd party GIS solutions. Also part of Standard Edition. XML DB A high-performance native XML storage and retrieval technology that fully absorbs the W3C XML data model into the Oracle Database, and provides new standard access methods for navigating and querying XML. With Oracle XML DB, you get all the advantages of relational database technology plus the advantages of XML. Also part of Standard Edition.

5 Advanced Queuing This is a database integrated message queuing feature that provides automatic and guaranteed message propagation to enable business message communication between different applications, including applications of external partners. Integration with the database brings unprecedented levels of functionality, operational simplicity, reliability, and security to message queuing. Also part of Standard Edition. Workflow Oracle Workflow is a workflow management infrastructure that supports business process definition and automation. This technology enables automation and continuous improvement to enterprise processes by flexibly routing information of any type according to user-defined business rules. Also part of Standard Edition. Additional Features Other features in Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition include Advanced Multi-Master Replication, Data Compression, Online Index Build, Parallel Query, Parallel DML, Bitmap Indexes and Bitmap Join Indexes, Resource Prioritization Management, Block Media Recovery, Fast-Start Time-limited Recovery, Trial Recovery, Incrementally Updated Backup Images, Cross-Platform Transportable Tablespaces, Asynchronous Change Data Capture, Enterprise User Security, and Finegrained Auditing. Available Options for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition The industry-leading Enterprise Edition functionality can be extended by the capability to purchase additional optional products: Oracle Advanced Security Option This option provides support for strong authentication and encryption across networks and external authentication services for database users. Oracle Data Mining Option Oracle Data Mining allows organizations to build advanced business intelligence applications that mine databases, discover new insights, and integrate that information into end-user applications. For optimal performance, Oracle Data Mining embeds data mining functionality directly into Oracle10g for making classifications, predictions, and associations. Oracle Enterprise Manager Management Packs The four available packs (Diagnostics, Tuning, Change Management, and Configuration Management) enhance the baseline capabilities of Enterprise Manager10g and Database10g to provide an unbeatable combination of high-end database capabilities with minimal human labor input. The packs are discussed in the Enterprise Manager section, later in this document. Oracle Label Security Option This provides an out-of-the-box virtual private database implementation that provides sophisticated and flexible data security. Oracle Label Security employs labeling concepts used by government, defense, and commercial organizations to protect sensitive information and provide data separation. Oracle OLAP Option Fully integrated inside the database, Oracle OLAP (online analytic processing) provides a complete set of analytical functions. Using multi-dimensional queries and calculations, information such as enrollment trends, budgets, forecasts, and net present value can be derived. Oracle Business Intelligence Beans, a Java OLAPI API, and native SQL access provide efficient tools for building applications that require complex analytical queries. Oracle Partitioning Option Oracle Partitioning enables intelligent partitioning of large tables and indexes into small manageable pieces in order to provide higher availability, increased performance, and reduced impact of media failure. Range, hash, composite (range combined with hash), and list partitioning methods are supported. Oracle Real Application Clusters Option Oracle Real Application Clusters provides unlimited scalability and high availability for packaged or custom applications by exploiting clustered hardware configurations. Oracle Real Application Clusters allows access to a single database image from multiple nodes while insulating application and database users from hardware and software failures. Oracle Real Application Clusters provides unbreakable performance that scales and grows with the hardware environment. Oracle Real Application Clusters is also included with Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition for clusters of up to 4 CPUs total.

6 Oracle Spatial Option Extends the core Locator features to support high-end GIS and location-based services. Oracle Database Lite The single-user, small footprint mobile component of the Oracle Internet platform designed to run disconnected on laptops, handheld devices, and next-generation cellular phones. Related Database Products: Oracle Programmer A rich set of interfaces for developers who write low-level code that accesses the Oracle Database. This product includes embedded SQL interfaces (precompilers such as Pro*C and Pro*COBOL, SQL*Module, and SQLJ), a package of tools for the Microsoft platform (Oracle Objects for OLE), and two utilities (Object Type Translator and JPublisher). Related Database Products: Oracle Database Gateway Products The Oracle Enterprise Edition Database provides built-in support for Advanced Replication, Distributed Transactions, and Heterogeneous Connectivity via ODBC and OLE-DB. This functionality can be extended with the Oracle Open System Gateway (including gateways for MS SQL Server, Sybase, Rdb, Ingres, Informix, Teradata, and RMS), Mainframe Integration Gateway (including the gateway for mainframe DB2), Enterprise Integration Gateway (including gateways for DB2/400, DRDA, MQ Series, APPC, and Access Manager for AS/400), and the Transparent Gateway for iway (formerly EDA/SQL).

7 Owens Community College purchased the Oracle Application Server to use the Oracle Portal engine as a lower-cost alternative to the Luminus portal. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill uses the Oracle Database, Oracle Application Server, and Oracle Collaboration Suite to provide a wide variety of services to their constituencies, from the myunc.edu portal to calendaring to student registration to grants management. Using Oracle Portal, the Houston Community College System has reduced the time it takes to prepare college-wide planning reports by 75 percent or more. Oracle Application Server s Identity Management functionality is used by Golden Gate University to make their systems more secure while lowering administrative costs. Boston College uses the Oracle Application Server s Discoverer end-user query tool to report against data from their PeopleSoft systems. WebCT Vista uses the Oracle Application Server s Content Management SDK to provide a robust infrastructure for enterprise distance learning. The Higher Education Intelligence accelerator from Oracle Consulting uses proven models and processes to gather quality information from operational systems, like HR, Faculty, and Student repositories and financial systems, into a single corporate Data Warehouse. Oracle Application Server, Oracle Developer Suite Fast, Complete, Integrated The Oracle Application Server is an integrated Application Platform Suite designed to enable organizations to have a lower cost, more responsive software infrastructure. Oracle Application Server s Service Oriented Architecture provides a full toolkit of grid-ready functionality including a rich portal framework, Web page caching, powerful business intelligence, a complete identity management platform, and sophisticated integration support, while supporting all major J2EE, Web services and XML industry standards. The Oracle Application Server functionality is licensed flexibly via one of several broad editions- the Java Edition, Standard Edition, and Enterprise Edition- or via one of several solution-specific offerings- Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Forms, Oracle Identity Management, Oracle Integration, and Oracle Portal. Oracle Enterprise Manager Application Server Control Oracle Enterprise Manager provides an integrated, end-to-end management solution for administering both Oracle application servers and Oracle databases. Also part of Java and Standard Editions. OracleAS Containers for Java (OC4J) OracleAS 10g Release 1 supports the Java2 Enterprise Edition Specification v1.3, including a JSP Translator, a Java Servlet Engine, and Enterprise Java Beans container. OC4J includes support for the following standards: Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0, Servlets 2.3, JavaServer Pages 1.2, J2EE Connector Architecture 1.0, and Java Authentication and Authorization Services 1.0. Also part of Java and Standard Editions. OracleAS Web Services Oracle delivers advanced facilities for building, deploying, and managing Web services, supporting standards like SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI. Web services built on Oracle10g Application Server can be deployed on any

8 operating system that Oracle supports and are compatible with other standards-based service implementations, including those built with Microsoft's.Net technology. Also part of Java(minus the UDDI Repository) and Standard Editions. Oracle JDeveloper and the Application Development Framework Oracle JDeveloper is a comprehensive standards-based Java, XML, PL/SQL, and Web Services development environment that can be used to best exploit the capabilities of the Oracle Application Server. JDeveloper provides integrated support for the various stages of the development lifecycle including modeling, editing, compiling, debugging, deploying, tuning, and configuration management. The Application Development Framework is an advanced platform-neutral technology to develop new applications that lets developers focus on the business domain, rather than the underlying technologies. 5 named developer restricted licenses are included per new CPU licensed for all editions. Additional JDeveloper licenses can be purchased separately or as part of Oracle Developer Suite. OracleAS TopLink TopLink is an advanced Java persistence architecture that integrates the object and relational data worlds, allowing application developers to easily store and retrieve Java objects using relational data. Also part of Java and Standard Editions. OracleAS Web Cache Oracle Application Server provides a Web caching solution with the unique capability of caching both static and dynamically generated Web content. Oracle Web Cache features include page fragment caching, Edge Side Includes (ESI) and Edge Side Includes for Java (JESI) support, compression, load balancing, cache clustering, and failover. Also part of Standard Edition. OracleAS MapViewer MapViewer is a J2EE service for rendering maps using spatial data managed by the Oracle Database s Locator or Spatial features. Also part of Standard Edition. OracleAS Developer Kits Oracle10g Application Server includes development toolkits to provide a truly complete solution set, including support for Content Management, Portlet Development, Perl, XML, LDAP, PL/SQL, and JDBC. Also part of Standard Edition. OracleAS Personalization Leveraging Oracle s business intelligence and data mining capabilities, Oracle Personalization provides real-time recommendations and personalization for users of web-based applications. OracleAS Wireless Oracle Wireless supports transforming and building applications for a wide variety of connected mobile devices and voice gateways. Oracle Business Intelligence Widespread access to key data is increasingly central to e-business success. However, business intelligence software has typically been considered specialty software, separate from an application server platform. Unlike other vendors, Oracle integrates sophisticated business intelligence tools and capabilities in our application server. Oracle Business Intelligence is also available as a solution-specific license offering. Oracle Business Intelligence: Discoverer Oracle Discoverer provides intuitive, ad-hoc query, analysis, and Web publishing functionality that opens up the OLAP and analytic power of the Oracle Database, enabling novice users to access data and perform advanced analysis without knowing SQL. Oracle Business Intelligence: Reports Oracle Reports Services executes, distributes, and publishes high quality, customized reports for enterprise reporting. Oracle Forms OracleAS Forms Services is the deployment server for applications built with Oracle Forms Developer, such as the Oracle e- Business Suite, SCT Banner, or custom developed systems. Forms Services provides a rich user-interface while minimizing network traffic and ensuring scalability for large enterprise applications. Oracle Forms is also available as a solution-specific license offering.

9 Oracle Identity Management The Oracle Application Server Enterprise Edition delivers a full-use version of the Oracle Identity Management Platform, which provides a consistent security and identity management model for all Oracle technologies. Oracle Identity Management is also available as an option to the Standard Edition or as a solution-specific license offering. Oracle Identity Management: Oracle Internet Directory A mission-critical LDAPv3 server that leverages the Oracle Database. OID s Directory Integration Platform provides a set of interfaces and services that make it possible to develop synchronization solutions with other enterprise directories and metadirectory solutions. Pre-built synchronization agents for Windows Active Directory and iplanet Directory are provided. Oracle Identity Management: OracleAS Single Sign-on Oracle provides a framework for secure single sign-on, allowing users to log in to multiple Web-based applications, such as expense reporting, , and benefits information, using a single username and password. Oracle Identity Management: OracleAS Certificate Authority Oracle Certificate Authority supports public key infrastructure environments by generating and publishing X.509 V3 digital certificates to support strong authentication methods. Oracle Integration Oracle Application Server Integration is Oracle s enterprise integration solution for Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Business-to-Business (B2B) collaboration, and web services. It is built on a common data and business process model, and is based on a standards-based infrastructure. This enables full visibility into the business processes. The product s J2EE-based implementation fully leverages the infrastructure of Oracle Application Server 10g to deliver enterprise-strength performance, scalability and manageability. Oracle Integration is also available as a solution-specific license offering. Oracle Integration: B2B Oracle Integration B2B is an e-business integration product for the business-to-business (B2B) exchange of services, information, and products. It supports standard and custom B2B protocols and documents, comprehensive trading partner management, easy integration with existing applications, and a full set of reports and security features. Oracle Integration: InterConnect Oracle Integration InterConnect acts as an Enterprise Service Bus that is useful for integrating data between endpoints such as databases, applications, and outside partners. It can provide integration with other messaging systems and between various data sources and applications. Oracle Integration: Workflow Oracle Workflow is a workflow management infrastructure that supports business process definition and automation. This technology enables automation and continuous improvement to enterprise processes by flexibly routing information of any type according to user-defined business rules. Oracle Integration: Adapters The baseline integration capabilities of Oracle Application Server provide technology adapters for files, database, Oracle Advanced Queuing, web services, jms, http(s), smtp, and ftp. The capabilities can be extended with additional adapters. Additional adapters are available for Oracle Applications, PeopleSoft, SAP, Seibel, JDEdwards, EDI, RosettaNet, CICS, IMS/DB, IMS/TM, VSAM, Mainframe DB/2, and Tuxedo. The Technology adapters are included with Oracle Integration and the Java, Standard, and Enterprise Editions. Other adapters are licensed separately. Oracle Portal Oracle Portal is a browser-based software environment for building and deploying enterprise portals. The easy-to-use portal interface offers an organized, personalized view of the business information, web content, and applications needed by each user. Oracle Portal is also part of Standard Edition and is also available as a solution-specific license offering. Oracle BPEL Process Manager BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) is the standard for orchestrating discrete services into end-to-end business processes and a key component for implementing a SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) strategy. Oracle BPEL Process Manager comprises an easy-to-use BPEL modeler, a scalable BPEL engine, an extensible web services binding framework, a monitoring console and a set of built-in integration services (transformation, user task, java embedding). Oracle BPEL Process Manager is not part of the Enterprise Edition. It is only available as a licensable option to the Enterprise Edition or as a solution-specific license offering.

10 Oracle Developer Suite Tools for the Oracle Platform Oracle Developer Suite is a suite of tools that are optimized for building applications that take full advantage of the capabilities of the Oracle Platform. The tools within Oracle10g Developer Suite focus on two key solution areas: developing web applications and enabling business intelligence. Oracle Calendar has been successfully deployed to faculty and staff across the entire campus of Cornell University.
