5 Democratic National Convention 2012 Emergency Management & Intergovernmental Relations Congress approved $50M federal grant to Charlotte/Tampa for security purposes CMPD led multi-jurisdictional law enforcement team (emergency and rescue, fire, bomb disposal, personnel for protests, parades, convention facilities) Secret Service oversaw Charlotte s security strategy along with Homeland Security and the FBI. Hundreds of police personnel traveled from NC, VA, SC, TN, and GA to support the convention. City agencies involved: Manager s Office, Mayor & City Council (politics & fundraising), City Attorney (protests/parade), CATS, CDOT, 311, E&PM (arena construction), CMPD, CFD, Corp Com, Aviation, Planning/Permitting, etc. Communications 24/5 Joint Information Center for Media/Constituents, staffed by City/County PIOs Live in the Loop. Uptown businesses, CATS customers, CDOT road closures, parking, traffic, event zones, Speaker s platform, parade application, etc. Legacy IMPACTS: People s lives will be better because our community hosted the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

9 American Airlines: 2015 Legislative Agenda Since 2005, N.C. has capped the amount passenger air carriers pay on sales tax on jet fuel at $2.5 million, set to Jan 1, Without legislative action this session, NC would have had the 5th highest jet fuel tax in country in Jet fuel is a business input (similar to diesel for RR and shipping); a cap only benefits one carrier; an exemption makes CLT and NC competitive for air service.
