SDG&E Overview San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) SDG&E is a regulated public utility that provides energy service to 3.4 million people through 1.4 million electric meters and 860,000 natural gas meters in San Diego and southern Orange counties. Our service area spans 4,100 square miles. Employees We employ about 5,000 people who work every day to deliver the energy our customers need. Our Parent Company Sempra Energy is a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services.

SDG&E s Commitment to Solar 2017 Projected Renewables Portfolio* 33% renewable energy by 2020 Over 1,500 MW of solar PPAs contracted today as part of our Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) 40 SDG&E-owned solar projects hosted by SDG&E customers (through Sustainable Communities Program) 216 MW Net Energy Metering (NEM), over 30K customers * Contracted as of January 2014 Smart grid technologies provide platform for diverse energy supplies 4

Sustainable Communities Program SDG&E works with customers to integrate SDG&E clean generation systems within energy efficient and sustainably designed buildings Program helps customers meet their environmental goals SDG&E systems supplies renewable energy to the customer s local community Aids participating schools and businesses in educating students, employees and customers about sustainability Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in San Diego s Balboa Park LEED Silver Certified Highly Energy Efficient Hosts 100 KW SDG&E PV system Supports SDG&E s future Smart Grid development 5

Sustainable Communities Program This program, started in 2004, works with our customers to create showcase, energy efficient, sustainable projects that incorporate SDG&E-owned clean generation systems. Integrate photovoltaics, plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) chargers, energy storage and energy management systems with advanced communication & control systems in support of the smart grid Systems photovoltaics, fuel cells & battery energy storage Photovoltaics 4.2 MW Fuel Cell kw Four projects with energy storage 224 kw/340 kwh battery Reduces intermittency of the PV system Helps SDG&E with peak shaving Installed, owned, maintained & operated by SDG&E Awarded the US Green Building Council s Leadership Award

Sustainable Communities Program They collectively generate enough energy at peak production to supply nearly 2800 homes. The energy produced prevents nearly 9 million pounds of CO 2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere each year. The GHG savings from the electricity produced is equivalent to not driving a car 11.9 million miles, or planting nearly 136,000 trees.

Steps in the SCP Process Contract terms: 20 year lease with options at years 10 and 15 to renew, purchase the energy system or request removal of the system Lease payment (if applicable) is paid annually, but the first five years are paid upfront Lease payment is $0.01/kWh per year, calculated up front based on nameplate of PV e.g. 100 kw PV annual lease payment of $1,700 PV/Clean Energy Installation: 1. SDG&E issues a RFP to approved solar vendors 2. SDG&E awards the bid 3. Solar vendor designs the PV/Clean Energy system 4. Solar vendor obtains permits 5. Work with construction schedule to install the system 6. Commission the system

Sustainable Communities Program These projects are located in communities throughout our service territory Projects include schools, municipal buildings, non-profits, research facilities and commercial buildings Most of these projects are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified by the US Green Building Council The energy is typically connected on the utility side of the meter and flows to the grid, helping us provide locally generated renewable energy to the communities where these projects are located.

Sustainable Communities Program The first 30 SCP projects were solar photovoltaic only As the utility began to focus on developing a Smart Grid, we created opportunities to include additional technologies such as fuel cells and battery energy storage Our showcase project at the San Diego Zoo incorporates solar canopies, electric vehicle charging stations and battery energy storage Educational dashboards were included in key projects to educate and inspire building occupants SDG&E s Energy Innovation Center featuring solar tracking technology

Civita Civita is a new construction master-planned community project in San Diego by Sudberry Properties, Inc. SDG&E and the developer are working together to create a smart energy community that can be a model for other new communities. The developer has designed Civita to be highly energy-efficient, with electric vehicle charging equipment and sustainability elements in both the residential and commercial sectors. Image from Google Maps SDG&E will be installing distributed energy resources (DER) such as solar PV, fuel cells and energy storage, in West Park Apartments, an apartment project currently under construction within the community. All SDG&E s distributed energy resources will be interconnected on the utility s side of the meter, and will not impact the customer s energy use or bill. Customer will use the heat byproduct from the fuel cells to heat the pool, increasing the overall efficiency of the fuel cells. The apartment project is currently scheduled to be completed in Q

Civita West Park Apartments Fuel cells and battery are planned to be located along west corridor west building PV will be located on top deck of parking garage of Building A 27

Civita - Special Projects with SDG&E Current Microgrid SDG&E s DER supporting the common area of West Park Apartments will provide support for refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, or plug load.
