2016 Mission Trip Information
Ministry Destination: Costa Rica, Central America 1 Corinthians 16:14 Do everything in love. Welcome and thank you for your interest in serving on the mission field with Central American Mission Projects ( C.A.M.P.) Our on the ground mission teams are essential in order to bless the outreach programs that God leads us to do. In Central America C.A.M.P. has implemented Touching Lives missions, an outreach in local neighborhoods in Costa Rica. These include Feed the Kids, Dental for Kids, Medical for Kids, Shoes for Kids, School Supplies, Vacation Bible School and Construction Projects. We are always in need of volunteers and if God is speaking to you, then join C.A.M.P. for one of the best experiences of your life. Your trip will require careful planning and forethought. This information packet is a valuable resource to help guide you. C.A.M.P. encourages you to walk the path of missions. We look forward to serving with you. We welcome new and old friends. This is a life enhancing invitation to families, couples, and those going on their own. C.A.M.P. is pleased to announce that the 2016 construction project will be at a local orphanage. This project along with dental, medical, shoes, meals, and playtime with the children during the week is an experience that will always be with you. Dan Whitlock C.A.M.P. President 2

Team Leader Contact Information If you need to contact your team leader before the trip, see their information below. Team 1A (Jan9-16,2016) Leader: Chuck Stout Phone: Team 2A (Jan 23-30,2016) Leader: John Haley Phone: Team 1B (Jan 9-20,2016) Leader: Chuck Stout Phone: Team 2B (Jan 23-Feb 3, 2016) Leader: John Haley Phone: Emergency Contact Information If there is an emergency at home during the trip, your family can reach you using the following information: FOR COSTA RICA: Camp cell phone: Hotel America: Hotel Diria (Tamarindo): or We encourage you to take this page with you and leave a copy with your family. 4
FAQs How does CAMP pay for worksite supplies? Since C.A.M.P. s ministry is to provide construction material and labor for Christian mission projects, there is always a need for funds to buy materials. In other countries, just as in the US, materials are expensive. Most funds are raised through trip participants like you. In order to afford adequate materials at the worksite, we ask that each team member provide at least $300 for materials. How do I raise the funds? We encourage you to involve your friends, families, and church as you raise your funds. This allows them to feel involved in an important mission without ever leaving home. A couple ideas regarding how to raise your funds: ask your church mission committee to sponsor you, ask those around you to each donate a portion of your goal amount, ask your congregation to donate what they can, ask if a C.A.M.P. board member lives in your area and could present at your church s Minute for Mission, or ask friends to match your donation to your fund account. Get those around you involved! Do I have to raise funds to go? No, it is voluntary. God always provides what funds are needed at the time and uses people just like you to provide them! The amount you are able to provide is between you and God and will not be judged in any way by C.A.M.P. Why is airfare not included in the total cost? As you know, the airline industry is affected by the unstable economy. Buying blocks of tickets for later assignment, as C.A.M.P. used to do, is not a cost effective way for us to purchase tickets. In addition, we ve found many C.A.M.P. travelers would rather locate an online deal and purchase their own tickets. Due to these factors, we have decided to offer participants two options: purchase your own tickets or ask C.A.M.P. to purchase your tickets. How can I communicate with home while in Costa Rica? Hotel America has computers with internet access in the lobby on a first come basis. The hotel also has WiFi. Access for both can be sporadic. There is usually a store in the hotel area that has internet calling for a very small fee. Guidelines for those purchasing their own tickets: Do not purchase a ticket without confirmation from C.A.M.P. that you are registered. Submitting a registration form for a group does not guarantee a place is available for you in that group. Arrivals in Costa Rica should be between noon and 4 p.m. Purchase your ticket and send flight information to Dan Whitlock at camptours@yahoo.com. Guidelines for those who want CAMP to purchase their tickets: Indicate this on your registration form and C.A.M.P. will do the rest! Your ticket will be purchased at market rate. C.A.M.P. will search for a low price but will not guarantee that price is the lowest online. The airfare ticket cost will be added to your total trip cost. The tickets will be in your name and therefore non-refundable. Dan Whitlock will purchase your ticket and share flight information with you. 5
Why does CAMP want to buy my tickets for me? Purchasing tickets allows C.A.M.P. to coordinate flights so that group members will be on the same flights and arrive at the same time, which is efficient for C.A.M.P. when scheduling shuttles to pick you up at the airport. What if I can t go? If you are unable to participate in your trip for any reason, the officers of CAMP must receive cancellation as soon as possible. You may be responsible for some or all trip costs. Monies put towards mission trips are considered contributions by IRS rules and therefore are technically non-refundable. Please notify C.A.M.P. immediately if you are unable to attend. Preparing for Your Trip Make sure to submit your payments on time to Ron Brown. Make checks out to C.A.M.P. or Central American Mission Projects Inc. Contact your leader to gather any suggestions they have about purchasing your airline tickets. Anticipate your health needs. Make sure your tetanus shot is updated and consider talking with your doctor about what medication is best for you to use in case of dysentery. Also, remember to get sugar substitutes, motion sickness medications, and other medical-related items you might need. Make 2 copies of your passport. Leave one copy at home with your family and take one copy and the passport with you on the trip. Select the amount of cash to bring with you. Our average travelers bring $ in cash. Many Costa Rican locations accept Visa and Master Card and there are ATM machines available. Choose photos of your life to share with people you meet. One of the most meaningful parts of the trip is the time the group sets aside each day for sharing what God is showing us throughout the trip. We begin this time with a voluntary devotional presented by someone in the group. Your team leader will ask for volunteers near the beginning of the trip, and we hope you ll consider volunteering! 6
Packing for Your Trip The airline will charge a fee if your suitcase is over 50 lbs. Remember to follow guidelines for liquids in carry-on luggage. Pack your belongings in one carry-on and one checked suitcase. Your second checked suitcase will be used by your team leader to bring needed items for C.A.M.P. (your team leader will provide more guidance later). Due to constantly changing luggage rules, further information will be provided later. Remember to always pack necessary items (extra glasses, medications, one extra outfit, passport, etc) in your carry-on in case checked luggage is lost. If taking prescription medications, make sure they are in their original container so you can prove they are yours. In your suitcases, pack: 2-3 work outfits, 1 nice- but not too dressy- outfit for church, 1 outfit for a dinner out, 2 casual outfits, socks & underwear, 1 sweater or light jacket, sturdy work boots or sneakers, casual shoes, 1 hat, work gloves, swimsuit, sleepwear and toiletries. Optional: sunglasses, sunblock, bug spray, walking shoes, personal tools, pictures of home, Bible. Dress modestly. Undergarments should be completely covered and skirts & shorts should be nearly knee length. USA electrical appliances will work in Costa Rica s electrical outlets. Daily laundry is provided during the work week. During Your Trip When traveling with the group, let the team leader do all the communicating with airport staff and officials. Do not give money or items to anyone you encounter on the trip. We encourage you to use the team leader as a currency exchange to avoid an illegal rate on the street. Use common sense when choosing what to eat or drink in San Jose. When in doubt, ask your team leader for advice. Do not explore the area yourself. Always travel with a partner or group and be aware of pickpockets. To avoid the high calling rates at the hotel, use calling cards or . Internet is available at the hotel. Please be punctual. While flexibility is extremely important for any team, we realize unexpected adventures await us at times. It is very important that teams try to be as punctual as possible. Each team and group leader s time is valuable and we do not want them to lose time waiting unnecessarily. Your help is greatly appreciated. 7
At the End of Your Trip Please leave behind any lightly used clothing you want to donate to the locals. Should you wish to leave any of your tools behind, future groups will be happy to use them. If you want to help C.A.M.P. fulfill its mission, we encourage you to give generously to the Project Fund to purchase building materials for the next team. Think of how to share your experience with friends and family. Trip Overview A and B Teams will begin the trip together.
