1 ISSN: RAA review Roy Adaptation Association Vol. 18, No. 2 Spring 2015 CONTENTS Announcing: The 2015 Roy Adaptation Association International Workshops and Conference June 12 and 13, 2015 Announcement: RAA Conference & Workshops 2015 Thoughts from the Theorist Workshops Program Conference Program 3 Thoughts from the Theorist (cont.) 4 The Conference and Workshops will be at Boston College in Boston, MA. Thoughts from the Theorist... Greetings to all our RAA members and visitors! Even our international friends saw pictures of Boston s unusual mounds of snow this winter. We want to assure you all that spring has come and our city is beautiful and ready to welcome you to the 2015 Roy Adaptation Association International Workshops and Conference. You will see by the program in this issue that we have an exciting two days of workshops and award winning papers and posters planned. Our theme of Global Perspective of the Roy Adaptation Model Countries and Cultures brought in a large number of outstanding abstracts... (continued pg. 5)

2 WELCOME! RAA Colombia, Universidad La Libre It is with great anticipation that we welcome the Roy Adaptation Association s newest chapter: RAA Colombia, Universidad La Libre. Located at Universidad Libre s Pereira, Risaralda campus, this new chapter seeks to disseminate updated knowledge of the Roy Adaptation Model based on modern advances. More specifically, to quote their application, RAA Colombia, Universidad La Libre hopes to strengthen research, education and nursing practice through the implementation of the Roy Adaptation Model as a theoretical basis. RAA Colombia, University La Libre is headed by Chancellor Gloria María Atehortúa Rada, a devoted scholar who has been with University La Libre s Nursing Program for many years. Welcome RAA Colombia, Universidad La Libre! We are thrilled to have you join us and eagerly look forward to your contributions! Left to right: Prangtip Chayput, Dr. Callista Roy, a representative scholar from Thailand, and Sumiko Tsuhako University Libre s Pereira, Colombia campus. RAA Japan News: New Roy Research Center at St. Mary s College We are delighted to announce that RAA Japan is currently in the process of establishing the Roy Research Center at St. Mary s College in Japan. This is great news, as this new center will not only be an excellent resource open to researchers at St. Mary s, but throughout Asia. Please join us in congratulating RAA Japan on this wonderful achievement! Page 2 RAA review

5 Thoughts from the Theorist (continued) We are pleased that although we can have only the very top of this outstanding work presented as award winning papers, participants can share their significant work by poster presentation. In addition, we will hold our workshop day in the new home of the Boston College Connell School Nursing. You will also see an increased global perspective as a result of our international chapter representatives serving on the RAA Executive Board and participating in significant ways in the conference. This is the outcome of implementing parts of the RAA Strategic Plan We are pleased that this edition of RAA also features two additional global developments, a new chapter in Colombia and research developments in the RAA Japan chapter. We look forward to celebrating these global events and other participant achievements at our Awards Ceremony. I am beginning to prepare the keynote presentation for the conference, my perspective of our global work with the Roy Adaptation Model. I am deeply humbled by the RAM's spreading out to so many corners of the globe. Our Asian contacts have spread from Skyping a conference presentation in India; questions from Indonesia; and working on a Korean version of the Coping and Adaptation Scale (CAPS): Short Form. (Watch for a poster that explains the development of the CAPS: Short Form, pre-publication). Our recent European contacts include Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and significant research ties in Turkey. Several contacts have come from the North African nation of Tunisia. Closer to home, we now have scholars in Cuba interested in CAPS. I look forward to sharing some thoughts from this perspective and joining you in the other events of the 16th Annual RAA Meeting in Boston.
