The Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Specific duties include but are not limited to: Researches, develops, and presents briefings, lectures, multi-media shows, structured and impromptu talks, guided tours, and on and off-site arid thematic interpretive programs in areas such as Native American culture, geology, nature, wildlife, plant biology and history. Develops interpretive programs that are thematic, address multiple learning styles, present multiple points of view, and provide opportunities for emotional and intellectual connections. Presents interpretive talks and conduct activities (i.e. guided walks or tour) utilizing a variety of presentation techniques appropriate for school groups. Manages, schedules, and coordinates education/interpretive staff and program logistics including resolving maintenance and ordering and purchasing supplies. Serves as a frontline supervisor or lead, evaluating employee performance, achieving employee development and ensuring EEO practices. Serves as a program and logistics coordinator, ensuring quality and accuracy of a park or similar setting s curriculum-based programs. Prepares interpretive media such as databases and site and

3 informational bulletins. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots a variety of computer programs (including specific computer software, various printers, plotters, copiers, and scanners). Physical Demands: Ranger work is indoor and outdoor work. Almost all Ranger positions have some outdoor work, to a greater or lesser degree. Interpretive work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Work Environment: Ranger presentations are given indoors in visitor centers, in school classrooms or community centers, and often outdoors at campgrounds or on trails, some of which are level and some of which are steep and can be wet, or icy. The Ranger is subjected to frequent hot and cold weather, insects, and other discomforts and, in some cases, hazards of rough terrain. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate that you possess either the specialized experience or the education as described below. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may also be used to qualify. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 level applicants must possess: A. Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. For this position, specialized experience is experience serving as a tour leader/guide in a park, recreation, or conservation area; presenting natural, cultural, or historical interpretive programs to diverse audiences; and experience assisting in the research and development of materials for presentation on topics that include natural, cultural, and historical education. OR B. Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: successful completion of two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree (36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours) in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, social sciences, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR C. Combination of Qualifying Education and Experience: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education or the type and levels described above in A and B. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of one year is qualifying for combination.

4 Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. In order to receive credit for experience, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the number of hours worked per week. Credit for experience is given on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. Background Investigation: You will be required to complete a background investigation with favorable adjudication prior to entry on duty. Probationary Period: A probationary period of one-year shall apply to all new federal employees. Driver License: You may operate a government motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid state driver license is required for this position. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
