1 PiLog Master Data Quality Manager PiLog has developed sophisticated software solutions to manage master data. There are over 20 different software products. The PiLog MDQM is an integrated platform for collecting and managing master data that is transferred to a target EAM/CMMS or ERP application for medium to large enterprises. The PiLog MDQM application is available under Software as a Service or SaaS license, that can be accessed over the internet or as a locally hosted integrated application. It is an ISO :2009 certified software product and proves to meet the international master data quality standard. In the SaaS model, the application and data are hosted on a PiLog managed server outside of the client s data center. In the locally hosted integrated configuration, the application is hosted on the client s server within its firewall. The PiLog MDQM suite is available in two configurations: standard and enterprise. The standard version is limited to a single business unit in one language. The enterprise version is designed to support multiple business units in multiple languages. It also tracks common items across multiple business units using plant extensions. The PiLog MDQM suite is functionally divided into three products or modules: Master Data Ontology Manager, Master Data Acquisition Manager and the Master Data Record Manager.

2 PiLog Master Data Ontology Manager Ontology: a descriptive technology In data cleaning we use ontology to reference the collection of data tables that are used to clean data. Essentially this consists of a dictionary, one or more classifications, a collection of data requirement statements (identification guides or templates) and rendering guides. The PiLog MDOM application provides various functionalities that will enable the user to properly identify classes, data requirement statements and classification systems relevant to their business or industry and link them as corporate preferred for later use in the acquisition of quality data. Solution Features Includes the functions required to create and maintain terminology and classification, as well as, data requirement statements (cataloguing templates or specification sheets). The customer dictionary is managed as a subset of the ECCMA Open Technical Dictionary (eotd), an ISO and ISO 8000 compliant dictionary that contain terms and definitions collected from international and national standards organizations and industry consortia. PiLog MDOM Classification Manager The PiLog MDOM includes a classification manager. This is used to create hierarchical classifications for spend analysis or other reporting requirements. These classifications can be mapped to any classification supported by the eotd. This includes the UNSPSC, CPV, ecl@ss, GPC, FSC, NSC and industry classifications published in the ECCMA Classification Registry (eclr). PiLog MDOM Client Dictionary Manager The dictionary manager functions as an interface between the ECCMA registries and the MDOM registries from which the user selects classes as corporate preferred. Requests for new classes can also be made for inclusion into the eotd. PiLog MDOM Data Requirement Manager The primary function of the PiLog MDOM is to allow users to create and maintain data requirement statements. Each class is associated with the properties that are used to describe the class. The data requirement manager is integrated with a dictionary that contains the terms and definitions; this is sometimes called a company lexicon or vocabulary.

PiLog MDOM Rendering Guide Manager The PiLog MDOM can be implemented as a standalone module, a SaaS (Software as a Service) or it can be fully integrated to the PiLog MDRM and PiLog MDAM applications. Data deficiencies exist for one or more reasons: The basic data elements were never implemented properly and/or completely. It was not implemented with strategic company goals in mind. The process through which it should be maintained and managed is too complex from a systems (ERP) point of view. (The referential integrity constraints of ERP systems do not allow for the easy restructuring of the master data, but does ensure the integrity of the data once correctly structured). Terminology Class (domain, noun qualifier, item name, commodity): a group that has common properties. Classification (hierarchy, category sets, taxonomy): a structure of classes and subclasses. Property (attribute, characteristic): the label of a data element used to describe an entity. Property Value Pair: instance of a specific value together with an identifier for a data dictionary entry that defines a property. Characteristic Data: description of an entity by the class to which it belongs and a set of property value pairs. Data Requirement Statements (identification guides, FIIGs, IGs, cataloging templates, commercial templates, material or item specifications, form fill specification): a specification of the characteristic data (properties) needed to meet requirements. Rendering Guides: a specification of the representation of the characteristic data.

4 PiLog Master Data Acquisition Manager Many ERP implementations fail to deliver results expected by business, primarily due to the fact that the data within the system is neither up to standard nor ready for upload at the time that the plant is commissioned or becomes operational. Data deficiencies exist because of one or more of the following reasons: The basic data elements were never implemented properly and/or completely. It is designed to ensure consistency in the cataloguing process and to deliver well structured descriptions in accordance with international standards.
