3 What s in it for us? Deadline Approaching for AB 1295 AB 1295 defined pathways for implementation in California by July 31, Legislative Analyst is awaiting a formal plan from the CSU s and Community Colleges California Community Colleges Nursing Advisory Committee called 3CNAC will have Linda Zorn as the lead to work with the chancellor office. CSU s have team working on transferability from the Community College to the CSU-BSN programs. CCC has academic senate with nursing faculty representing the community colleges.

4 Who needs to be at the table in preparing the action plan for this recommendation? Representation from various volunteers from the state of California have become involved with over 100 individuals wanting to make a difference. Includes Academia, Service, students, community partners. Collaboratives throughout the state of California to report out what is working and what is not working by region.

5 AB 1295 Requires that by Fall 2012 must implement articulated nursing degree pathways. No repeat of prerequisite courses or course content required for the ADN Identify additional components to be included that provide a streamlined nursing degree for a transfer pathway No duplication of BRN pre-licensure or ADN required course content AB 1440 Transfer of general education-academic Senate Assigned from the Community College Chancellor s Office to develop. Accelerate BSN attainable in one year post licensure of ADN Increase RN-BSN program Sustainability and Permanence

7 Recommendation #4 Workgroup Main Goals for 2012 Outcome Measures Strategies for Attaining Goals Establish baseline percentage of Currently Practicing RNs (headcount) with minimum educational level of BSN (CPRN-BSNs) in CA to enable setting realistic 80% by 2020 goal for CA and monitor progress. Quantify net balance headcount of CPRN-BSNs in CA annually. Inventory and analyze data from existing CA ADN-BSN Projects to establish best practices and define technical assistance needs. Annual goals represented on goal thermometer with baseline and annual targets to reach 80% by Baseline annual output of new nurses with minimum BSN + new Post- Licensure with minus BSN baseline number of CA CPRN-BSNs leaving workforce (retiring, deceased, leave nursing workforce, leave CA) Best practices for seamless ADN-BSN collaboratives; identified technical assistance needed by programs Clearly define CPRN-BSN to include all at BSN and above (e.g., ELM). Coordinate efforts with Rec #8 Workgroup (Spetz & Bailey) to access, collate and analyze data from all sources (BRN, NLN, AACN, ACNL, DoL, etc.). Analyze hard data from data collection sources above and soft data (estimates) from practice sector and CA/US DoL(?) Check with Suzette Cardin re: her data Include in preceding survey as appropriate. Coordinate with P. Hilden and D. Jones for funded and unfunded collaboratives access

8 Main Goals for 2012 Outcome Measures Strategies for Attaining Goals Create a communications plan for a campaign to educate nurses, community colleges, and healthcare organizations about the importance of continuing higher education for nurses Web and media based fliers, print posters; Regional Champions Sub-group with reps from all sectors to develop message and medium! Coordinate with M. Dickow and C. Shillam for PR purposes Continue to facilitate progress on AB1295 with consultation and support to the CCC and CSU Chancellor s Offices Summary report of statewide accomplishments by July 31, 2012 (legislative due date for implementation of seamless AND- BSN pathways) Liz and Stephanie continue to work with their respective COs and nursing faculties Identify and codify immediate system threats to Post-Licensure BSN enrollment opportunities in the CSU, UC and CA private universities Defined high to low threat level list of specific barriers to ADN prepared RNs enrolling in Post- Licensure Programs Conduct statewide survey of CCC faculty & students, Post-Licensure BSN programs, practicing RNs and practice sector orgs. Combine with existing data from BSN and DOL.
