Public promoting of clinical research Investigator driven clinical research is supported by Projects Grants of Universities and Hospitals the Swiss National Science Foundation the European Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon2020 ( EDCTP; ECRIN) Infrastructure Cantonal level: (University-) Hospitals, Medical Faculties, direct contributions Direct federal contributions for national research institutions and infrastructures (art. 15 FIFG/LERI) 6
7 Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research Disease specific clinical trial organization Direct federal support for clinical research projects and infrastructure since 1992 National action plan to combat cancer: a priority of the national health policy 7
8 Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation SCTO and Clinical Trial Units CTUs (I) Mandate of SERI to the Swiss National Science Foundation to establish a disease unspecific Clinical Trial Organization SNSF: competitive call for Clinical Trial Units in 2007/2008 and initial support for up to five years SCTO a umbrella organization - coordinates the collaboration between the CTUs and builds bridges between academia, industry and public authorities 8
9 Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation SCTO and Clinical Trial Units (II) As from 2017 the SCTO and the CTUs will benefit as research infrastructures of national importance from direct federal contributions. In the long term: - one disease unspecific Swiss Centre for Clinical Trials as a hub and local Clinical Trial Units as satellites - well organized collaborative groups in the various fields of clinical research using the services offered by the Centre for Clinical Trials and the CTUs 9
