It is housed at Woodlawn Arts Academy, a state-of-theart facility featuring three professionally equipped dance studios. Woodlawn Dance Academy offers many styles of dance for ages 3 and up. Our program is cumulative, running from September through May, with four, eight-week sessions culminating with our annual recital the weekend after Memorial Day. Due to the progressive nature of this program, students must begin with Session 1 in order to participate in the recital. Class placement is based on age, technical level and experience. Classes are designed to introduce students to ballet and tap together at the lower levels, then progress into individual discipline classes at the intermediate and advanced levels. We invite you to participate in all of the dance forms, especially ballet as it is the foundation of all styles. Our goal is to offer quality programs while creating an environment for positive learning and, most of all, FUN! As a service to our participants, we have a large-screen monitor in our lounge that allows parents the opportunity to view each dance class without the worry of interrupting the dancers. Woodlawn Arts Academy is the only place in Illinois to be invited to participate in the cycle of World Fest, a program of Minneapolis-based Arts Midwest. Through this two-year partnership, Arts Midwest brings international music ensembles to the Sterling area. Groups share their unique language, culture and music through workshops, presentations and a public concert celebration. The ensembles yet to visit the Sauk Valley area through this partnership include Sofi & the Baladis, an Israeli folk band (concert December 8, 2018); and Ondekoza from Japan featuring the powerful sounds and rhythms of taiko drumming (March 2, 2019). Concert tickets will be $10 each and go on sale approximately one month before each concert at centennialauditorium.org and Woodlawn Arts Academy.
