4 Our Distinguished Faculty Alan R. Borlack graduated with honors and high distinction from the University of Michigan and from Harvard Law School with distinction. He is a founder and partner at Bailey Borlack Nadelhoffer LLC, where he concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation. Mr. Borlack has spoken on litigation topics at Lorman Education Services sponsored seminars, before the Chicago Bar Association Corporate Practice Committee, the St. Louis Bar Association Computer Law Committee, and moderated a panel discussion of the Illinois Legal Time s Roundtable on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has handled cases as diverse as defending against class actions, cases involving covenants not to compete and intellectual property to the constitutional issues of enforcing laws prohibiting lights at Wrigley Field. Mr. Borlack is a life member of the National Registry of Who s Who. Geoffrey L. Gifford is a senior partner and founder of the law firm of Pavalon, Gifford & Laatsch. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Missouri and earned his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Missouri, Michigan and Illinois bars, as well as the federal trial bar. He has authored many articles in the areas of medical negligence, product liability and demonstrative evidence. Mr. Gifford recently received the Leonard M. Ring Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers, he is an officer of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Gifford is certified by examination by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a civil trial advocate and is also certified by examination as a diplomate of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. He has been and currently is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Shawn S. Kasserman, a partner and litigation attorney at Corboy & Demetrio, has achieved much success trying cases involving medical malpractice, product liability, premises liability, transportation negligence, automobile negligence, municipal liability and contract disputes. He has also handled many successful appeals both as an appellant and appellee, and has successfully settled cases involving theories as diverse as toxic torts and defamation. Mr. Kasserman is a frequent speaker for legal, business and community groups and has published articles on such topics as jury selection and civil procedure. He is listed in the top 5 percent of all Illinois attorneys by the Leading Lawyers Network and has been designated a Super Lawyer. He is currently on the board of managers for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and is a member of the American Association for Justice and the DuPage County Bar Association. Mr. Kasserman graduated from DePaul University College of Law. Avidan J. Stern is a partner in Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago and is affiliated with its Business Litigation, Securities Litigation and Class Action Litigation Practice Groups. He has represented clients in a wide variety of commercial litigation in federal and state trial and appellate courts. Mr. Stern has achieved the highest rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and has been awarded an Illinois SuperLawyer listing in the field of securities litigation. He is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association and also has authored articles on procedural topics for the American and Chicago Bar Associations. Mr. Stern is a former chair of the CBA Federal Civil Procedure Committee and reports on civil procedure issues through his blog at Mr. Stern received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. degree, with honors, from The University of Chicago Law School. Howard S. Suskin is a partner in Jenner & Block LLP s Chicago office and is a member of the firm s Litigation Department. He is chair of the firm s Class Action Litigation Practice and co-chair of the firm s Securities Litigation Practice and a member of the Arbitration, Business Litigation and Professional Liability Litigation Practices.
